flooding on a new car?
Probably covered a million times already, but i suck at searching. I know the FC's have flooding issues due to old cloged injectors. What would cause a new 8 to clog since it has brand new clean injectors?

Luckily, it seems Mazda has reduced the chances of this occurence greatly.
Hope this helps a bit.

My 2 cents...........I was all worried about flooding as well when I bought my 8 but I've got to the point where I don't even consider it anymore. I crank it up and shut it down regularly. I'll move it 12 feet and shut it down again...............
In fact, I actually tried to flood it (well not by doing anything stupid but by starting it and shutting it down again repeatedly)..............the "new" starter fired the engine every time without the slightest moan.......................
Like I said, just my two cents, this thread is over emphasized................

I moved mine out of the garage into the driveway today for a wash and wax. Temp in the 80s, but being chicken I let it run and warm up while I gathered the hose and other implements of cleansing. Did the rev to 3K before shutoff, too.
I'm curious about what temperatures people have had flooding.

Im in North Carolina so it bloody hot here now. I bought the 8 in April, so its been relatively warm the whole of my purchase.
I know flooding is an issue but with the new starter, it just rolls over quickly. I'm just saying that I've given up worrying about it. I drive it. I park it. I move it...............no big deal
(of course, now I'm jinxed)

I'm in Virginia, only had my 8 a month, so I haven't hit the cold flooding weather yet either. I think I did stall it once backing out of the garage, and it re-started with no problem.
Following the ritual yesterday was no problem. I had to move the car out first to get to my cleaning stuff stash. Letting it run just used a little gas - but if you have one of these you cannot let yourself obsess over using gas.
I did have one "do I warm it first?" episode a couple of weeks ago when I was checking out of a motel. Threw my stuff in the trunk, then drove around to the front. I wondered how much to believe the procedure in the Orientation film...er, I mean Product Update DVD. I let it warm up. Chanted "4 8 15 16 23 42" to help pass the time.

...........and I've got a friend here in NC that bought one of the first 8's in 2004. I was all "hot and bothered" about the flooding issue and he said the same thing. He simply quit worrying about it (and his is an '04) Sure, one can't discount that flooding has happened, but IMHO, the statistics are skewed.
You only read about it here when it happens. You DONT read about the other 8 gazillian startups that don't flood. Like I said, I'm sure I'm jinxed now. But if it happens, I'll call road side assistance. In the meantime, I get in my car and go, regardless of the distance or warm-up..........
And I'll offer one last anecdote. I tossed my car keys to my 17 year old nephew to simply move my car out of the driveway (it was blocking others). He came back inside and sheepishly admitted he stalled my 8 like 6 times before he could move it.......and no harm done (except to his pride)............)

My fc with over a 185k miles on her and the original injectors and starter only flooded once on me in the 3 years i had her. Even then the gas pedal to the floor and cranking her over a few times got her running on the first try.

Why move the vehicle?

Any car can flood, I have a motorcycle that will do it every time if I stall it on start up.
This just happened Friday...everyone at my job knows I'm a motorhead and asks me for car advice. A female friend bought a new 3 series sedan on my advice, and was complaining to me about it flooding.
My 8 has yet to flood, even though I often start her up just to move it. Still, mazmart might have real reasons why the 8 is more prone.

I've only had mine 2 weeks but I make sure mine won't flood by following the guidelines. I won't be taking any chances of having to have my new car towed to a dealer. In winter it might be an issue but usually just a 5 minute drive is all it need to warm up.
