A fond farewell
Hello Fellow RX-8 Owners,
Today I traded in my RX-8 which I owned for last 4 years. I baught it new in 2005 as a left over on the lot and have driven it every since. I live in New England and drove it through numerous snow storms especially the one last december which had me stuck in traffic for 5 hours. The car served me well and even though it had its share of problems, all of which covered by warranty, she was true to me and I enjoyed her very much. So after 87,700 miles I had to trade her in.
So now I step into a 2006 Mercedes-Benz which is a fantastic car. Doesn't handle like the RX-8 obvisouly but is a lot more practical and also has a lot more amenities which I am really enjoying.
If it is alright with anyone that reads this thread I would like to stop by once in a while and visit with some of my old RX-8 buddies which I met during some meets.
Farewell RX-8. May you make your next owner enjoy you as I did.

very nice car!!! sorry to see you trade your 8 in but you do what you have to do. the benz will no doubt be a very practical car and with the mercedes comes a hefty amount of reliability.

Hefty reliability? i don't know what you've been reading or hearing but Mercedes Benz is definitely not known to most for being the most reliable vehicles. we have them in the shop constantly for repairs. alot of people think right away " oh its an expensive car it must be reliable" well they have a few things to learn. don't get me wrong i love a nice Benz but they surly aren't the to most reliable cars on the road. when it comes to reliability Honda/toyota/nissan ect. have far better reliability.

I know you don't care, and I believe you shouldn't care, because different strokes for different folks, but I think true Mercedes stopped being made in the late 80s and early 90s.
I also think the interior on that Benz is just a sin for such an 'esteemed' car.
I have a friend with a 2005 S500 and it is unbelievable how cheaply made some of the interior components are in his car. A great example is something as simple but noticeable as the door locks. They are incredibly cheap, plastic hollow part.
More than any other prestige make, I am most unimpressed with Mercedes.
My s/o has a two year old VW Passat, and it wasn't cheap for what it is (a 4 banger), and I am dumbfounded as how VW can brag about 'German Engineering.' The car is a total POS.
For all the bitching, I am very impressed with the interior build quality of my 8 - amazed actually. I know some people beg to differ, but the fit and finish and solidity of the components used is quite impressive by my touch and sight.
Sorry for the opinionated rant. As long as you like your new car is the only thing that should and does matter.

To each his own. Sorry to see you go. I personally HATE mercedes unless its McLaren AMG whatever which is at least fast. But yeah to me benz has always been the old tired father while BMW is the sporty younger one.
But like I said to each his own. I really hope you enjoy it and dont miss the 8 that much, although I know you will.
