forced into a 8
hi new member here , thought i would explain how i came across my 8. my sister bought a black 6sp gt model about 2 months ago. i decided to borrow it one night and got into a wreck, the damage wasnt to bad , but my sister got all uptight about it , me being the smartarse that i am said "if u dont want the thing ill take it " she made me eat my words , after paying the 7400$ to fix it , im stuck with the 27k $ bill for the car, but i must say it is a nice car, so no hard feelings.

Omicron,
You should know that now that the cars been in a wreck, that makes it less susceptible to future damage... it's a simple matter of Murphy's Law, combined with the laws of quantum physics...
In short, it's "predisastered."

From what I know, this is like the big arguement about renting a vehicleand buying the rental company's insurance rip off. If you have adequate coverage on yourself, then your insurance covers any vehicle you may drive. Correct me if I am wrong here. I'm not 100% on this and it may vary from state to state.

I'm with emailists. Sure, your sister has coverage but, the insurance covers her as a driver. Did you not have adequate insurance? As far as who's responsible, you were driving and your insurance should have covered it provided you have adequate coverage.

Actually her insurance is primary. The insurance covers both the vehicle and the driver and both are used for rating purposes. If a vehicle has insurance, and you are driving it with her permission then it will be primary. You are covered for a temporary vehicle that you drive which is why you do not buy the policy at the rental place because it is considered a "temporary substitute" and not a replacement. The rule of thumb is when you borrow someones car, you borrow their insurance.
