Freaking Dealership... does this sound right?

Allright, a few of you know, i just received my RX8 a couple months ago. It has been running great, but im not complaining about the performance. About a week ago now, my car's heat shield came loose (u know, the one that MAZDA recalled the car for because of it melting the gas tank or something...) and it began to rattle against the exhaust. I called up Mazda this morning, and began setting up an appointment, and she asked what the problem was, and she said that the heat shield is not under warranty. ....What? I was gonna argue, but she said something about it being able to hit curbs and stuff, thus not putting it under warranty, and to look in the owner's manual. I didnt think about it first, but i have a 2004 RX, not a new one, so the manual shouldnt have anything to say about the heat shield being there, considering they did a recall on it, right? Guys help me out, i dont know if i should pay or look somewhere else, cuz that is actually really annoying that the thing they put on the car is something they wont replace or at least reposition it.

The metal shield over the exhaust was never part of a recall and it could get damaged were you to back your tail pipes into a curb for example. A better diagnosis would help; can you take any photos of what is lose?

I could try, but i wont be able until later today, ive never backed the car into anything though...
The previous owner of the car said it was brought in for a recall to place a heat shield on the car. I dont know why he would lie about it or not, but i guess it wont hurt to look it up later to see if there was a recall.

I had the same rattling heat shield problem with my aftermarket cat. I took it to a local auto shop and they charged me $12.95 to fix it.

Operators dont know ****, dont even ever listen to them.

Just tell them I dont know whats wrong the car just rattles and runs weird. when u are there talk directly to the service tech.

But yea I guess a picture worth a thousand words.

Welcome to the nightmare which is Mazda service. If your lucky you might get a dealer with a really good serviced depart but don't expect Mazda's policies to provide that. Mazda's general rule is if you can stick the problem to the customer do it.

The whole car is under warranty, if they can show that it was obvious damage from hitting something they can deny work otherwise make them fix it which can be a hassell but it is what Mazda has saddled us with.

My mazda dealer didn't give me any problems this morning. I asked for the recall flash (still haven't gotten the damn letter), they did it without any complaints about the turbo, or missing cat. I told them the headlights had film on the inside, they replaced them without charging me a dime.

If your dealer isn't working with you, go to another dealer. Some suck ***, others are really good.

It really does come down to the dealer. Thus far, my dealer, Showcase Mazda and my service advisor Kevin has been great. Sorry to hear that one is jerking you around...

thats the problem, this one is already 20 miles away.
I dont know where the next closest one is just because there are literally none around where i live. I dont doub that there is one in dallas, but i wouldnt be surprised if it isnt at least twice as much farther away as this one is
