Angry Free Maintenance.. (with stipulations??)

I just went for my 3,000 mile scheduled maintenance and they told me they will not honor the schedule 2 warranty but only the schedule 1. This to me is bull crap. In the letter to us they mentioned nothing about only honoring the 5,000 mile maintenance schedule and she told me that this is what Mazda Corporation told them to do. Has anyone else experienced this? This is even more screwed up because I am just trying to follow the scheduled maintenance outlined by Mazda themselves. They even gave 7 or so reasons and almost everyone falls under the more frequent option. Any input on this would be helpful. I am expecting to talk with a Mazda Corp rep tomorrow.

Thankx....

Relax, your dealer is an idiot. Both schedules are covered. It is in writing having to do with what the 'free maintenance covers' direct from Mazda. It's somewhere on here, try the search. I printed it out a couple weeks ago, in case my dealer doesn't know.

Not true...

... I got my 5000 mile oil change for free. They did say something about sticking to either mileage or time based scheduling. Once you start one way or the other you've got to stick with it.

Bulliten

This indicates that Mazda is to comply with the guidelines set from pages 8-3 to 8-5. The oil changes on these pages says that its every 3,000 miles but they are telling me every 5,000. What am I missing here?

You will also notice that they took out 3,000 miles from schedule 2 to cover themselves which is not in our guides. All of our guides has this 3,000 miles in it on the Oil changes if you look closely.....

The schedule in my manual says 5000 miles for oil changes. Where do you see 3000?

I have noted this in many other threads.

When you purchase your car, dealerships tell you to bring it in at 3000 miles so they can check over the car and charge you for the check-up. In most cases they charge you....

Some dealerships will do a complimentary check, others, well, others just screw you.

If you take it in before 5000 miles, they (MNAO) will not pay for it.

So in other words just drop it, Mazda is right in this instance and just enjoy the hell out of this car.

Yeah, I went into Casey Mazda here in Newport News and was kind of disappointed in their lack of knowledge/poor service regarding the free service and other RX-8 info. It took over 2 hours for them to do the oil change. That's with an appointment and asking them to please be done within an hour and a half time frame. I asked them to rotate/balance the tires for me under the program and they told me they wouldn't do it until 7500 mi. They also knew nothing of the oil pan switch up. That place was rediculous.

Check your letter. I got one similiar saying I should be ready for the 3000 mile oil change, but the letter is from the dealer. They are trying to get you in to pay for their services. Its a form letter generated by a computer. I know this because a co-worker of mine bought a miata from the same dealership a few weeks before me. He bought an 02 miata in the middle of 03. Anyway his letter said he should be ready for an 18,000 mile oil change. His car had 40 miles of test drives on it when he bought it in June. The computer must have been looking at the delivery date to the dealership and calculated the number of miles the car should have been. They also sent a coupon for $24.66 for the full service deal. To bad its going to be a freeby.

Can someone explain to me the details of the free maintenance offered by Mazda. You see, I purchased my vehicle on Aug. 30th, with an advertised 247 HP. In other words I bought what I thought was a 247 HP vehicle. I called mazda as suggested in another thread and they told me this was a dealer issue. They told me they would contact the dealership and have them settle this issue...not sure if they did or not. I asked the manager there and he said he never heard from them. Anyways, the manager is a nice guy and looked into the issue. He told me what mazda told me...that I didn't qualify for mazda's program because of the sale date, but that he would arrange to get me the same services from the dealership. So he cut me a $500 check and free routine maintenance oil changes and lubrication every 3,000 miles. Is this the same service offered from mazda?

Thats BETTER than Mazda's. We are getting Oil changes every 5000 Miles (In the US). Our $500 is in the form of a "debit" card. to be used to purchase items (not Mazda restricted). Cash is better than that.
Your dealer did you well with that deal.

Only upside to our deal is that any dealership will honor our "free Maintenance" card. It looks like you need to go to that specific dealer. No biggie.

Also, since it is your dealer honoring the free service, make sure you get all the details he promised you spelled out. In writing exactly what is covered and for how long.

Wow...well I was pleased with the staff at the dealership before, but now I hold them in the highest regards. Cool. Sorry for all of you having problems with Mazda's program.

Yea, I made sure to get everything in writing. It's all here. But you're right, I do have to have the car serviced at the same place I bought it, but that's no big deal for me...I planned to do that anyways. I've got a good relationship with them so if I'm going to have anything done to my car, I want it to be with them.

read and print out the memo from mazda to the dealers about what is covered in our deal. it also includes spark plugs and other things besides the oil changes.

You had to take delivery or have a deposit down on or before Aug 26.

Lee Chun, yea, I got that bad news a while back. Thankfully, my dealership reimbursed me instead of Mazda.

zoom44, thanks for the link, that cleared it up for me. Mazda's program covers more parts/labor in the long run, but our programs are pretty much the same up to 35,000 miles, except the schedule calls for oil changes at 5,000 mile intervals whereas mine is 3,000 mile intervals.

Thanks for the input guys.
