A friend of mine wants to get a RX8

So yeah... A good budy of mine is thinking about getting a RX8. Hes 23 years old just like me, but he already graduated college and is working full time. He currently has a 2001 white M3 convertible with 23k miles on it which hes still paying for, and an 2003 or 2004 Audi A4 which he leased, and the lease is up soon. Hes trying to sell the M3 because he dosnt drive it much, Hes final candidates comes down to the RX8 and Lexus Rx400h. Hes sort leaning toward the RX400h because he dosnt feel like dealing with a sports car in the snow. and it snows fairly often here during the winter in the Washing DC/MD/VA area. The M3 is pretty much unusable in the snow around here. but he still might want something sporty.
what do you guys think?

and he wont consider a IS350 or G35 etc because they are too similar to the M3 and A4, he wants to try something different as he leases hes next car.

let's see, he doesn't drive his M3 much already, AND he's leaning toward a SUV because he doesn't want to deal with driving a RWD sports car in snow

honestly, to me, it doesn't sound like the RX-8 is for him right there

i mean, if he's even a semi-sports car enthusiast, he would've figured out that getting a set of dedicated winter tires would've made the M3 more than passable in DC Metro winter weather. Same with the RX-8, the stock SUMMER tires on these cars are completely useless in wintry conditions, he WILL need winter tires if he plans drive it winter.

that's my take and I'm sticking to it :p

Tell him to get the 8. He'll be more happy with it than with the suv even if he is a semi sports car enthusiast. Im sure he can afford a good set of winter tires or all seasons if he needs them.

If this will be his daily driver, advise him to get something else--for a variety of reasons, but including winter driving. If it will be a second car for fun, tell him to get the RX-8 and park it when it snows.

TT quatro? Sporty, AWD, and looks good. Or maybe a saab 9-3 aero - basically a better looking wrx. Legacy's aren't bad either...

You call what you get down in D.C. snow? Geez, I live in friggin' *Boston* and didn't flinch at getting an 8 as my year-round car.

(Alright, I flinched a *little*, but I bought it anyway, and then found this site, where people say that with proper winter tires, the thing is fine. I confess, I haven't actually had it out in the snow yet. But geez, I wouldn't think *twice* for D.C.!)

Still, if he's such a ***** about it, then maybe he shouldn't get the 8.

If he's using it for daily driving and hoping to use it in the winter, I say go to get lexus. Its all about priorities and what one needs.

the rx8 makes a good winter's driving car.

add some snow shoes and your good to go. like everything else, just requires being cautious.
