Front License Plates

Has anybody thought about the fact that it will be very hard and look very bad to put a front license plate on the RX-8 where they are mandatory? (i.e. CA where I live - $50 fine)

Do you think a plate square on the front would interfere with cooling? (A rotaries best friend!)

Thoughts are appreciated.

It'll probably go on the side, I have seen some Alfa Romeos in Europe that have the plate on the side and it doesn't look 1/2 bad, although having it not on there at all, make it look 100% better.

Just put the plate in front of the cooling and punch holes in it (Just Kidding)

Anyways maybe I should get it registered in alberta, Canada where you don't have to have a front plate.

Looks like this RX-7 has its plate on the air intake.

Just my thoughts.

I live in MN where front plates are required, and have gone without one on my RX-7 for over a year. I use the car as my daily driver in the the snowless months. I have been stopped 2 times, and never bothered about the lack of a plate.

I do carry the plate in the puoch one the back of my seat in case I am bothered about it. Then I'll say " I have the bracket on order from japan, you see this is a rotary car and has to have a specially placed holder, otherwise the car will overheat".
then they'll hopefulyl let me off or give me a fix it ticket, whihc should be no problem. If I get the RX-8 I plan to do the same.

Thumbs down Front Plates SUCK

Yes, yes. Front plates SUCK. I have done similar. Being through 2 MR2's and an RX7, ne'er a front plate. Always kept in the car, and just said the car didn't have a bracket. Rarely bothered, only two tickets in ten years - one from a mandatory road stop and one from a jerk-off cop. Slap it on with some wires or string (only failed once - the excuse actually worked in inspection, too!) for inspection, and take it off as soon as you turn the corner!

Front plates also can interfere with remote radar detectors!

I've heard front plates give an easy target for police to clock you. so not having one will make it more difficult. and with all the C5 vettes driving around with stealth/sleek plate holders( a sweet idea) cops are probably never gonna bother you

That's why Kalifornia switched to highly-reflective white plates. Easier to bounce radar and LIDAR off of.

Minnesota huh? I live there and have driven RX-7s there for 13 years, and have never received more than a warning for no front plates. Non of them ever had one, and I've had enough speeding tickets to give the nice officers plenty of chances to say something about it.

why oh why didn't mazda think of this?? i guess they just wanted a cool look for their new flagship...

but, with racing beat, wings west, a bunch o' other companies, and mariah sure to eat this up, i expect that with their redesigns in custom urethane there might be a place to put one (further away from radiator or brake ducts...) on their street kits...
why wouldn't mazda have thought of this?? do they not need a front plate in japan or somtehing??

oh wait!! if one isn't inclined to break the law, a solution may be to install it between the bottom of the headlight (on whichever side) just above the break duct... if you hammered it to curve with the car it wouldn't look so bad, don't you think??
