Frozen In
I really hate the winter right now. I really wish I hadn't moved to a condo without a garage. My 8 is completely covered in about a half inch of ice / snow right now. The door handles are completely encased in ice. The trunk is completely iced over. Oh did I mention my scraper is in the trunk? Any ideas on how I might get myself out of this situation? Carrying hot water to the car is not the easiest thing to do since I live on the 4th floor.

That really sucks. I think hot water is the only safe option unless you can wait it out. All of our precipitation came in the form of snow. We have about 6" so far and it's still falling. The drive to work was treachorous, even with my snow tires. I've never been so nervous driving in my life.

I'm fine with staying home from work today. Problem is its going to be well below freezing until Monday at the earliest. I feel like a prisoner in my own home.
After looking at my car a few times I think it would take a LOT of trips with hot water....and I mean a LOT. I'm also afraid by the time I dumped the water....went upstairs and made it back down it will have frozen.

used to live in Montreal and park on the street, so I feel your pain...
Hot water is the only answer. Bring a lot, start at the roof / rear of driver door intersection, pour down, then forward along the seam. Once you're in, start the engine and run the car. Wait. Contemplate the universe.

it is -10 degrees FAHRENHEIT here...and I'm going to drive a beater car to work since at this cold of temperature you touch the paint and you've got a paint chipping off, YIKES

The nasty weather in the Midwest is making the morning TV news out here in sunny Kahhleeforneeah. That's messed up! If I lived there I'd have to hibernate all winter.
Forecast for L.A. through Christmas day: High 70 degrees, sunny, with some Santa Ana winds to ruffle the palm trees. :p
edit: Y'know, maybe I'll take the Miata and do my last minute shopping topless!

Bah on you warm weather folk. Well I broke down and went the hot water route. It did work but it took me about 10 trips with 2 pitchers of hot water per trip. The car is warming up right now. I really need a garage. :D

He's as bad as Can
You got lucky, Hot water on a real cold day can crack Auto Glass. Keep a bottle or two of that Blue widow wash fluid around and pour it around one door.

Hmm...didn't know hot water could crack glass. I really had no choice though if I wanted to use my car in the next 5 days. Good news was I finally got in my car and it handled in the snow and ice excellently.

My 8 is in the garage (one of the few beni's of home ownership!) two days of snow with a total snowfall of ~20 in. on the ground at my house. Temp was -3 F last night, with -10 F predictions for Christmas eve night.... (I really hate winter)

Snow and winter suck though, my winter tires are a Dodge Dakota.

Are you south of Indy, I am out far east and I measured about 10 inches in the yard yesterday? I saw on the local weather that down south of Indy it was up to 24 inches on the ground.

Works the other way around too, never take a hot glas from the dishwashing machine and pour a cold drink in it. It can crack without warning...
