Depending on your MPG you should be able to go somewhere between 30-40 miles after the light comes on (15-20MPG) Our cars have roughly a 16 Gal tank and i fill up as soon as the needle hits E and the light comes on and it takes roughly 12 Gal to fill her up. So that means there is roughly 2 Gal left after the light comes on. So However far you can go on 2 Gallons of fuel is what you got to work with.

16 - 12 = 2?
On mine, it takes 13 gallons to fill when the light comes on, leaving about 3. Which means about 50 to 70 miles before running dry.
There have been a number of posts on this, with people reporting different amounts. Let the light come on some time and see what the magic number is for your car. Find a gas station quickly, since you don't want to actually run out.

You shouldn't do that. It's not good for the fuel pump to run that low on gas. And why chance running out of gas? The gauge/LowFuelLight is not accurate at all. Every car will be slightly different.
Mine will take over 13gal to fill up if I go that low. I normally fill up when I hit 1/4 mark.
I really wouldn't try to go past 10-15 miles with the light on.

A long time ago I nearly ran out of gas in a rental car in nowhere Arizona - coasted into the first station west of Phoenix after 100 miles of nothing. Ever since then I always zero the trip meter when I fill up. Does not take long to get a good feel for distance gone vs fuel gone/remaining.

It's a good thing to know if you're in the middle of nowhere and trying to figure out how long you can drive until you're screwed... other than that, you should just fill up as soon as you can when the light comes on. Obviously it shouldn't be an issue if you're a few miles from your destination and you know you can get gas relatively soon, but I wouldn't drive by too many gas stations before deciding to fill up again.

I thought the S1 had a 13.7 gallon fuel tank, and the S2 a 16G. I've had it flat out on E before, due to having to stretch it once, and it took 13.7 gallons to fill it up. It came on with about a gallon left for me, which would've meant roughly 15-20mi. And with how our cars consume gas, I wouldn't chance it at all. I fill it roughly at a about 2-3 pegs under a quarter every time, roughly 12G.
But honestly, if you're planning a trip in the middle of nowhere, I'd get an extra container of gas just for in case. Just don't forget to use it at some point, or leave it somewhere that gets really hot without having it ventilated. Closed container of gas + really hot = really, really bad.

No, it is 15.9 gallon.
As it was said, the light is not accurate and will be slightly different from car to car. On mine, I could go about 50 miles (on the freeway) after it's on. Never ran out of gas, this calculation is based on the fillup quantity right away when the light came on.

zoom44, first let me say I'm not trying to call you a liar, but, this is where I got my information from stating different size tanks
https://www.rx8club.com/purchasing-financing-insurance-56/year-year-changes-143280/
So what info is correct?

15.9 gallon is series 1. I have filled it up 15.8 gallons before, and the needle was buried so low it might as well been trying to repaint the lines on the road.
Series 2 does look to have been increased to 16.9
