I just found out yesterday that someone gave me a 3 inch long sratch over my right wheel and it goes down to the metal. I'm pretty pissed and has been on my mind since then. It's a good thing this thread came along.

sometimes if you just have a big scratch on a door or hood a bodyshop can match your paint and just spray the body panel, and either remove it completely from the car or leave it on the car and mask it. Obviously, the materials costs is much lower when using a fraction of the paint, clear, and sanding/prep materials. Plus, the labor is reducing by 5 fold if not more. You can then get it painted much cheaper than repsraying the whole vehicle.

still awesome. the car was actually just repainted again in april, because a neighbor backed into the rear quarter panel. so 10 months later it still looked pristine. however, it does look a bit nicer with the absolute fresh coat of paint. i recently sold it. i took the amps and the 8" bazooka tube out though.

anyone wanna buy some rockford fosgate amps or the tube? :P

Ok the car I am looking to buy actually had a full body respray...I dont know why they did it cuz this is the second owner. The car price is still reasonable, I am just afraid of paint quality.

Aftermarket paint is probably going to be superior to stock paint...mazda has never been able to paint a car and have it stay for more than 4 or 5 years at a time. You're probably better off with the respray, unless it was poorly done.

the question is why was it done.

the answer (on a new car like the 8) is probably extensive body work. i'd stay away unless you are too tempted by the price.

thats really not a bad price, i didnt realise the owner before me had work done on the front bumper so now its peeling. So i got quoted 1000 dollars for the front bumper, i think mine would be about the same for everything out too. I think its worth it
