A Full Month With My RX-8 & No Flooding!
Only a month and so many memories. I laughed, I cried, I almost got arrested...good times. So here is my verdict.
The gas mileage sucks to be sure but regardless of me driving it quickly or not, I still get around 16 to 18 miles per gallon. I'm currently a student so I only really use it for joyrides so I don't fork over too much money for gas yet but I'm thinking at some point if I end up living far from work one day, I'm going to have to buy a junker to be my commuter.
I still fantasize about my car when I'm not near it, I expect that feeling to stay for another month or so. I really don't mind, and don't tell people so it's all good.
.
I found a nice windy road with a varied number of low and high speed corners and elevation changes. I almost went by a cop going 90. There were two hills on the straight bit. I topped out 3rd gear at the crest of hill one, and thankfully decided to slow down to just over 45 before seeing the pig on the bottom of the second. I really need to stop driving there, but I'm addicted.
I forgot to turn off my lights one night, and when I got a friend to help me recharge my battery, the stupid alarm kept going off every time I clipped in the ground wire. After annoying my neighbor to the point of her yelling at me, I finally figured out that if I put the key in the door, my car will realize that I'm not trying to steal it. So not stupid alarm, stupid owner.
I noticed a very annoying rattle in my steering wheel, and noticed that the top part of my shifter **** is loose (the part part with the gear numbers swivels from side to side) I guess I should get it fixed or stop swiveling it.
The trunk space is deceptively large. I was able to fit a weeks worth of groceries for two people with no problems.
I have added the "turn off traction control" command in the instinctive part of my brain that also automatically makes me buckle my seatbelt every time I get into a vehicle after I turn on the ignition.
So yea, I love this thing. Here is the end of my verdict/diary.
Oh and I'm taking my baby to a race track next Sunday for a few laps.

I've had my car for about 3 years now and only had 1 small issue. My gas cap had a small leak and thew a CEL (large emissions leak) which was fixed with about $12 and a few days waiting for it to arrive. I take care of my car but I don't baby it like I've read some people doing. Don't abuse it, let it warm up properly before doing anything but light driving, and do proper maintenance relatively on time. The car isn't going to implode on the 3001st mile you don't change the oil, but don't wait 20K miles either.
The RX8 is a badass ride. I've come so close to selling it and buying something faster, especially after feeling the power and torque of my dad's and uncle's Z06 Corvettes, but I'm keeping it for at least a few more years. Getting a tune, BHR ignition coils, and synthetic transmission and diff fluids next month to bring back that fun factor it had when it was almost new.

LOL - I look forward to leaving work every day. Not because I hate my job (I actually love it, it's more of a hangout than work) but because I can't wait to drive my car.
It's gonna suck in the Winter here in NYC. I don't drive in snowy weather.

I really don't remember, it was a Christmas present a few months after I first got the car. It probably doesn't add much on its own, but if you acquire an AccessPORT and get it tuned by MM it is supposed to help a bit more. IMO the $300 is worth the flash under the hood and the added noise. Sounds kind of lame to say, but it really is like the perfect exhaust. Very quiet while cruising but loud and distinctively rotary when you get on it. I revved at my buddy's 3000GT while we were in a parking lot one day and he went straight to the back of my car to see my aftermarket exhaust. He didn't believe me when I said the exhaust was bone stock. I have the red intake to match my car; looks like it was custom built for it. Adds a lot to under the hood where everything is black plastic and no visible engine. Its not a "must have" mod, but it basically has zero cons to it.

I get the feeling that the OEM parts are good and aren't really worth replacing. I guess the only real option is nitro or turbo. i'm not about to risk ruining my engine on nitros though, and i can't imagine the gas mileage downgrade of a huge turbo system. I guess I'm just happy to keep my car stock, and then trade it in when I'll want something faster.
