future rx8 owner...but questions.
i am heavily interested in purchasing an rx8...but not american domestic. i wish to purchase japan released rx8. i am asking for price quote for shipping and issues that come along with such a task...as well as price quote on mazdaspeed rx8.
anyone have any ideas? will emission be a concern for this scenario?

I dont live in Japan
so all I can say is
to call up Japan dealers and negotiate in Japanese
by the way,
are you saying the Mazdaspeed Rx-8 is really coming out?
gimme more details...

Why in the world would you want to do that? For the enormous time and money it would take, it'd be far easier to simply swap over what few bits are different (unless you're dead set on RHD).

Buying a car in another country and importing into, I am assuming, the US is extremely difficult. EPA standards are an issue for this car, Federal DOT certification will be a problem of varying degree, and the maintenance and support of the vehicle becomes a problem.
The horsepower and clear marker lights that are on the Japanese car and are not on the US car are not missing just for fun. Different countries have different legislation concerning their vehicles, and these are merely the most obvious ones.
The only way to find out what you will have to go through is to get a DOT breakdwon of the car both as built in Japan and what will be needed for registration in the US, and that will tell you how much work will need to be done. Sometimes it isn't much and sometimes it is impossible. I can't tell you what an RX 8 would cost to register here.
However, if you are talking about moving the vehicle to a country with no or little regulation of vehicles then it's just the cost of shipping, although maintenance can still be an issue.

does anyone know the cost and shipping rates?
and as far as maintance goes...i really dont see the reasoning behind it being much of a problem. from previous friends owning japanese imported cars...i dont recall hearing maintance dilemas. are there any for rx8?

One bit of advise, if you're actually serious about this and live in the States... import the car into Florida first. It is by far the easiest state to get an imported vehicle registered in.

Call Motorex or RB Motoring (both in California). I'm sure for the right amount of money, they'll be able to import you a JDM Spec RX-8, and do all the US emissions work for you. I would say expect to pay double the price of a US Spec vehicle just because of the shipping, taxes/tarrifs, and the emissions conversion.

When I lived in Okinawa a buddy of mine wanted to bring his 300z to the states, if I remember correctly it was going to cost him around 9000.00 to get the car up to U.S. spec and ship it.

If it's the white color you want, get an American RX-8 and pay for a good white repaint. It would probably cost less than the hassle you have to go through importing the JDM RX-8. I was in the impression that you wanted to import one coz of the JDM status. But when I found out that you didn't even know what JDM is, then I guess you just like the fact that the japanese RX-8 came with a white color.

One other thing to think about as far as price is concerned, it will change from day to day as the Yen rate changes. Purchasing a car from Japan you will have to convert dollars to Yen.
It would cost you less to by a silver US spec and have a show quality paint job done. Factory paint jobs are not that good, but the 8's is better than most I've seen.
Unless you are dead set on RHD I'd buy a U.S. spec car and modify it.
If your going to buy a JDM spec car I would buy one you can't get in the states, like the Skyline
Just my two cents

2010 Prius - Miss the 8
Contacted my friend in Japan that works for an auto dealer.. it would cost about 49k for the GT JDM version White... another 10k for the Mazdaspeed version, then another 6k for converting it to US specs, then another 4k for shipping over to US, another 1k or so for tariffs etc...
60k+ for the car you want... you really want that?
