Gas Cap/Check engine
First off there is proboly already a thread about this but I couldn't find it so if you know where one is just link it as a response.
Ok. So my check engine light went on and I was about to take my car to service when my friend suggested that I check the gas cap. Sure enough i didn't tighten the cap well. I called the dealer and explained the problem. They said I still need to bring the car in to reset the computer. The also mention warranty cover the problem once nad then its $90 bucks a pop. Is it really nessassary to take the car in or can the computer be reset easily without their toys.

The code should clear itself after a few full engine startups(and detects the problem is gone) as far as I'm aware. That may be limited to specific codes though, so I don't know for certain.
There was actually an updated gas cap- i had the issue and they replaced it with a new(er) part a while back.

I just had that happen to me and after a few day it went away. I did take it to the dealership since I had made the appointment the day the light went on , but they could'nt do nothing because the light had come off. So if they would put it on their computer nothing would show.
So don't worry it will go off.....

The gas cap was the subject of a recall:

If your car is in the VIN range, you're entitled to a new cap.
FWIW - you may just think you didn't tighten your cap. Whenever I took my original cap off, it felt like it hadn't been tightened. That was after I learned about the issue (even had P0455 come up once) and paid attention to tightening it.
New cap is a little huskier than the old, and when removing it feels like it was tight.
Only problem I had with the recall was that they tossed my fuel cap hook, and I had to make another one.
