gear changing

does anyone have any experience rattling sort of sound every time you shift gear with a MT? i only have 450 miles in my RX8 and i dunno if the pronounce sound i hear when i change gears is normal when the car is new. the gear change is just very subtle to hear in the inside.

Go to the dealer and drive another one. That should give you an indication.

i get that sometimes too... Not sure if it just needs to be broken in though.. mines still ~700 miles..

One thing I do know is that when accelerating or decelerating... the gas in the tank moves and makes thunking noises... to better imagine this.. try filling a gallon milk bottle half way with water... and moving it back and forth slowly.. you'll hear that thunking noise too...

now i have heard that thunking noise you were talking about. it was when i filled up my tank (full) and everytime i stopped hard, the petrol was shifting inside the tank.

thanks about that royal purple brand. i will try to have one of that.

i got the samething too, i wanted to make this kind of thread today. it happened to me from 1st gear to 2nd gear, when the engine temperature is still low. then it goes away as the temperature rises. it goes much smoothly when i rev at higher rpm before i change the gear. did you guys have the same thing? i am going to make an appointment for car service tomorrow and have it checked, if it's normal i don't think that's necessary since i'm pretty busy this week.

I'm gonna change tranny fluid to synthetic... maybe royal purple...

see if that helps it.. and i believe the tranny works a lot better at higher rpms...
not gonna worry about taking it to dealer unless it gets worse...

do you guys get a sort of metal grindy noise.. very faint.. when accelerating around 1-4k rpm?

all of you have got exactly what i am experiencing with my RX8. if i started from 1st to 2nd gear and shift at around 3krpm, a grinding sound can be heard and a clunk sound of the gear was pronounce. is seemed to be like a loose metal plate or something (not really that bad though). i tried experimenting by reving up the engined on 1st gear at up to 4krpm during start up, gear change was a bit smoother (also when the engine was well warmed-up). but the problem during high temperature is that my cluch sounds like a rubber rubbing together. i dont know about this yet but i will just wait until it gets worse or goes away. i am only on my 9hundred miles with my rx so maybe it's just breaking in.

Yep I too have an odd ka-chunk noise which can be heard with gear changes at low rpms from 1st to 2nd (mostly when the engine is still cold). I'm coming up for 9000kms so it's well broken in.

**edit - and i'll be taking it for the dealer to look at with my 10000k service. It just doesn't seem right.

I get that only when the trans is cold. Once it warms up I hear nothing.

about this Royal Purple Transmission Fluid, is there any specific Number that i need to take note when buying one (you know, like 5W-20 for my engine oil). I think i need to change my transmission fluid to help me have a smoother gear-shifting.

thanks.
