At which gear do you "redline" at?

Been enjoying my new car guys, well worth the purchase for me. So far, so good.

Got a question though. I hear alot here say how you should redline the engine to burn off excess carbon. I haven't done this yet, is it something that is really important to do? Secondly, what gear do you guys redline the engine at? 1st gear? second gear?

Thanks for the advice.

1st and 2nd are the most fun.
If you redline 3rd, you're upwards of 90 mph

Where I'm at for a DD to work the speed limit is ridiculously low, so I usually redline in 1st, and when I get the chance, in 2nd.

alright, thanks guys, will definitely try this when I drive home today. To be honest, I'm kind of nervous, don't want to blow the engine or anything, lol

The engine has no problem with 9,000 rpm, it was tested at much higher rotations.
One redline a day keeps the carbon away.
Besides, then you get to hear the fun "BEEEEP" when you hit 8,500 rpm

I redline 1st and 2nd daily... over 125, 000km on the engine... just keep checking that oil... redlining is an addiction.

Must be a few spots to open it up in the Sault!

I redline in "R" out of my parking spot everyday, but only after I start my car for the first time that day to insure the engine is very cold

I enjoy the reverse redline since the engine spins in the opposite rotation.. Makes the engine stronger by increasing its flexibility

I never go on a highway, so I'm stuck on roads that have a speed limit of 35 and 45. Usually, I just red line it in first...if I'm feeling mighty lucky and nobody is around, I may just do a second gear pull.

I usually do 1st and 2nd when I get the opportunity, always a blast to enter the freeway and listen to that 'beep'.

I have had my 8 for a little over 3 weeks now, and I have redlined it every day I have driven it. It is a blast, I love 9k rpms. I usually redline in 1st and 2nd, sometime 3rd when I'm getting on the highway if there isn't stop and go traffic like there usually is on my way home from work.

my 8 is not 1000miles yet. push to 7000rpm so far, but it's pretty fast and loud on first 2 gears already. Guess I am getting too old. :p

is redline really necessary?
