Talking Gereral topic about my MPG Increase

Alright guys.. I was shocked today to drive 280 miles and still have lil less 1/4 left..

From my recent post I had a problem with my 8. My car missed fired on Rotor2 and fouled up all 4 plugs

*They replaced the plugs with the hotter burning ones. (To help people with cold starting problems) <not me.

*Updated my PCM to the newest verison

The new Flash makes the car idle lower, I was watching him flash it and chattin with my tech. He showed me the screen RPMs where holding about 850-900.

Anyways, back to my story. The 280 miles were all highway. Temp out side is 91.. with AC on the full time. crusing speed at 75-77 sprint up to 80's to pass slow drivers. I was shocked to see it pass 270 before 1/4 tank left.. again with AC on was the shocker

*******My normal tank max limit is 280 for 13gal.. so about 21mpg

So Im going be reaching the 300 marker and about 13 gal puts it over 23mpg almost 24. with lil less then 1/4 left I should be able to squeak out 30+ miles.

Thats pushing 3 more MPG which is huge..

So do you think the flash and new plugs got me higher MPG...

Either way Im happy to see that the flash worked or the new plug are working.

No reason to complain in the first place but yeah the new plugs could have helped. Also you supposedly get better gas mileage with windows up and A/C on at cruising speeds. Better aerodynamics.

We all hate you.

Wow, it's probably a combo of the flash and plugs. Either way, that's awesome! Imagine no AC --> 25MPG?

Thats what Im thinking.. 25 damn Dont think I saw a post with that high of a number.. lol

Eitherway I'm going to watch it these next few days as I'll be driving about 500miles or more. See if its just a fluck or maybe gas related or somthing.

Also I just rolled 33,000 on my 8 today when I was driving.. crazy to see 32,999 in 11 months.

There was one bright spot in all of the recall hysteria. There were no mpg posts in 2 weeks. All good things must come to an end.

well yeah but that’s why I called it a General topic about my MPG Increase.

And the reason these boards are on here to talk about what’s going on with everyone’s car.. So simply doing my deed on posted about my car and how I just got a 3mpg increase. :D

Cheers.

I'm steady 20mpg these days in City. Up from 17-18 in ATL. Not gonna even try to guess why.

Ouch... I have 2,000mi on my Shinka and I'm LUCKY if I get 220mi on a 14gal tank, doing a good mix of city/highway. I think I'm hitting about 14-15mpg right now - which is horrible. It also idles kinda weird sometimes... but I'm going to take it back to the dealer and have them check the ECU and any TSBs for the car. It's a 2005 Shinka... dunno much more besides that

I just turned 30,000 miles on my 2004 and the fuel Mileage has gone up! Nothing else has changed - I use the same brand gas/octane Citgo 89, drive the same roads (90% city, 10% highway), the A/C is always on and it has been HOT lately. I m now averaging 19.8 mpg - up from 18.5 mpg. I recently took a ride for 2 hrs on all highway and got 25.3 mpg at 75 mph avg speed.

My absolute worse mpg was the first tank at 16 mpg and for the first 20k miles I averaged 17.5 mpg, then after the 'N' flash it went to 18.5.

I was wondering if some of us are getting better mileage due to the miles on the car, and thoughts?

mpg usually improves with mileage on a rotary engine. I average 16.5-17mpg initially and now I'm up to just under 18mpg. I got 3000mi on my shinka.

The rev limiter "beeps". The Flashes are computer upgrades/patches the dealer installs to change how the computer controls various aspects of the engine management.
