Getting compliments
So I was at the local U-wash-It car wash last night, waxing up my new rx-8, and I had 2 different guys compliment me on my car, it was great!
both of them asked me what year it was, not sure why lol.. and one was a fellow mazda owner, he said he really wanted an RX but ended up buying a Mazda3, great looking car too! if I was ready to give up my rwd sports car, I'd definitely be buying a mazda 3.
on a sorta related note, I found a lot of rock chips in the hood while waxing, how do you guys 'fix' those?

the biggest compliment ive gotten wasnt a spoken one at all.. i was at a 4 way intersection (first in line) and the other side was going... someone stopped in the middle to take a left turn and the person behind him drove into the back of him (he was staring at my car with his mouth open) didnt look like much/any damaged was caused as they were both going VERY slow... i drove by and smiled...

The other day as I was pulling out of a gas station parking lot a guy in an old riced-out Honda parked and got out of his car and just stared after me with his jaw on the ground. Maybe it was just the way the light hit him, but I could have sworn he turned green.
One thing you can say for sure, the 8 looks like nothing else on the road. If not for the Mazda emblem it could pass for a Maserati.

Yeah the 8 def has that semi exoticness to it. I actually got 2 offers from 2 friends of mine if i ever sell it, they'll buy it off me =). Never had offers for any of my cars before from friends when i didnt even say i was sellin or gettin rid of it.
Velocity Red def has those metallic flakes in them that depending on the light, it looks pure red or has that metallic tint that stands out esp in direct sunlight and people might think its a custom paint job as someone once asked me if it was or not haha.
Def like nothing on the road though.

Similar situation to Greenblurr93's. Back in '05, three lanes of one direction traffic, I'm in the center approaching a red light only one car in front of me already stopped as I'm slowing. Typical of this intersection, 5-6 cars stacked up in the right lane stopping at the light, a Toyota pickup cruising beside me in that lane at the same speed with the driver and passenger noticeably staring at my car while I'm winding down to a stop. Only problem is he needed to stop much quicker due to the multiple cars ahead of him, a brief chirp and SLAM!, pushed the car he hit into the car in front of it. A piece of plastic shrapnel actually hit the side of my car. No one hurt as far as I could tell except the cars.

Nice!
We all hate rock chips and not much you can do to avoid them except to never daily drive the car. Use a paper match end instead of the brush that comes with your touch up paint. The brush applies too much paint no matter how hard you try, hence the absorbent paper match method. It's far better to apply a very thin fill layer several times over a few days then to blob it all at once. Takes a lot of patience to not blob, but worth it.
If you do blob you can polish it out, but again easier to not blob in the first place.
Even being careful it won't be showroom perfect, but the best we can do.

As for the rock chips, I just cover them with touch-up paint. Having a white RX8, the touch-up paint blends in pretty well.

I have gotten nothing but compliments from this car no matter who I meet or where I go. Even car guys / ricers / fanboy racers think my car is cool even when they find out its an AT. Personally that isn't even something I think about. I love my slushbox lol.
But yea...get used to it. The first day I took it to where I was living (at a friends home at the time), this chick was over there, and they all came out to look at my new car. She offered to **** in my car then and there. The only thing stopping that was me...I had a girl at the time. Just broke up with her...so that's why I probably remember that lol. Oh well. It's been like 1.5 weeks and I've already casually hooked up with several chicks. I'm not shallow ( )...the car just helps lmao.

My car will actually suck the panties off hot girls as I drive by... it must be the vortex from my turbo -
In all seriousness though - my latest was when the drive through girl told me I HAD to put my phone number on my CC reciept as it was a new company rule - while witholding my food - it was pretty funny; too bad I am taken!!!

Thats awesome! I got plenty compliments in the Trans Am, but nothing like the RX-8 its definitely a little more exotic looking, I may have to take off the badges
Where do you get the touch up paint for the car? from the mazda dealer or just autozone or somewhere like that?

That may need to be my new siggy quote
I find that the best compliments come from either 10 year old kids drooling over the car. (just like I did when I was a kid) Or the old folks who want to come talk to you about the car.
The women always say how 'cute' it is.
I do not want my car to be cute, I want it to be manly and cool. But 'cute' is how I got Steph . . . . so I guess it is okay

I was sitting in the library parking lot getting ready to leave an this old guy comes out of nowhere just staring hard at my 8. Did a whole full circle around my car walking back an forth. I'm thinking he bout to attack me or something how he was looking. Comes up to me an ask me was that the new RX-7. I said no its an RX-8. He said if it wasn't for the Mazda badges he thought it was some type of new exotic. Thats why he was looking so hard.

Just yesterday, I was leaving home after lunch. I had to pass a road crew doing some work. One of them whistled and started waving me down to stop... I did and two guys come running over to ask me questions about the car. All this while trafic is backing up behind me. spent a good 5 minuites asking questions and saying how good it looked. I bet the people behind me would be pissed if they knew why i was stopped..haha ! And yes, i agree with Shinka MJR... nothing like our color!!!
