Getting my RX-8 tomorrow, but a few questions...
I usually don't like starting these kind of threads asking questions, but I just have a few simple ones about oil.
Living in north-eastern US, what type of oil do you guys use? I'm sure it says in the manual, but by looking at some threads here, people don't go by the manual![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
How often do you guys need to add oil?
Do you check your oil every time you fill up?
Sorry for the questions on my first post here, but a little quick advice would be appreciated. Nice, clean site btw.

oh boy, here we go again
you'll most likely get a different answer depending who replies. so, you have to make your own decision i suppose.
personally, i follow the operating manual and only use the recommended type of oil. and, like the manual says, i check the oil every other fill-up. depending how hard i drive, usually i usually don't need to add oil until every 3rd fill-up.
from what i understand, it's more important to warm up & warm down the car in cold climates to prevent engine flooding. here in southern california that's less of a problem.
congrats on the new car and make sure to post some pix when u get it!

Haha thanks for bringing up another question... How long do you need to let the car warm up and down. After the test drive we shut it off as soon as we got back to the dealer and they gave us a mini-lecture when we got back inside
And thanks much for the welcome

I follow the manual, too. I check oil level every other fill-up and, after 13K miles, I find myself adding maybe 1/3 of a quart every thousand miles or so. Not much at all.
I also follow Mazda's recommendation for oil: 5W-20 non-synthetic. I figure Mazda's gonna recommend whatever oil is best for the engine and causes the least problems. With all the opinions about oil flying around, I figure Mazda's engineers might have the most insight about what oil is best for the engine they designed.

I use 5w20 regular oil, like the owner's manual says.
Checked it pretty often in the beginning, eventually got bored. Now I check it once a month or so, like I would with a lesser car. Uses between half a quart and a quart every 2 to 3000 miles. I change oil every 3000 miles, and the dealer overfills by about half a quart, so I could never have to top off.
With the dipstick marked every half quart, and being a bit O-C, I top off when it's half a quart down.

Just like Detrich I follow the manual. I use a half quart every 1500 miles. I have an 04 with 51,000 miles. And I change my oil every 5000 miles. No problems to report.

Exactly the same for me; 14k miles.
