Getting my RX8 this summer....questions
I'm a new driver (17 years old) I saved up some money to buy my own car and RX8 is the best looking/affordable coupe.
I have some questions:
1. What are some tips to take care of RX8?
2. What are some stuff I should know about RX8 thats different from other cars?
3. In future, what parts should I upgrade? Where?
4. What should I do immediately after I get RX8?
4. Lastly, what is the best looking color for RX8? (just want some oppinions, I'm thinking silver)
Any replies are appreciated! Thanks!

search and google.. and if this is your first car why dont you look into a 2nd gen rx7 as your first rotary? That way if you wreck it you won't be out much money and your insurance won't skyrocket... but its your money so whatever

Watch out! Especially after a few months when you think you know what you are doing. The RX8 is fast enough to get you into trouble quickly. If you have never driven a car with low profile tires that can be a sudden experiance. The tires don't sound or break loose the way a basic Chevy or normal family car will.
Don't drink and drive. Just heard from my son that a 30 year old co worker killed her 10 year old daughter and badly hurt her 14 year old son when driving a borrowed Z ( 3 in a 2 seater) by over correcting when drunk.

I remember when my parents bought my first car, I didn't want them telling me what I should or should not buy. If I was paying for it myself, I sure wouldn't want anyone telling me I should not get the car I wanted. If he is 17, and he has saved up enough money to purchase an RX-8, I would think he is very responsible for his age. I couldn't even pay for my $2,500 1966 Mustang on my own.
The RX-8 has some issues with flooding, horsepower, torque, oil consumption and gas mileage that you should research if you haven't already done so. This sounds more serious than it is, but you should know what to expect with an RX-8. Just do some searches on the various forums here, and you will find lots of info. Then you will have enough info to ask specific questions if you need further info. If you get an RX-8, one of the first things I would do would be to make sure is has the most current PCM flash, and see if it has any outstanding TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) issues that could benefit you. You can find out about the flash from your Mazda service dept., and I think there is a thread somewhere that lists all of the TSB's. You should probably also do a search here, or go to www.racingbeat.com to find out the proper technique for breaking in a rotary engine. As far as what to upgrade, I can't really help you there. I don't do alot of performance mods to my car, but there is plenty of knowledge about that in the Tech Garage forum. I have only added the rotary accents and polished license frame covers to mine. You should check into oil cooler and a/c condenser covers, since these structures do not come standard with protective covers and are vulnerable to road debris. Mine is grey, but I also like red, black and silver. Because of your age, you probably will be looking at a high insurance premium. I think most new drivers have some sort of collision accident while getting the hang of driving, so you may want to think about whether you really want your first car to be a $30,000 vehicle. But if that is what you want, and you can afford it, more power to ya.

Of all the things to give somebody grief about in their first post, the most obvious was missed!
It ain't no coupe!
And for that, me and my children are extremely happy.
It's the same price as a new Mustang, MINI, Cobalt, Golf, Jetta, Accord, etc. I agree with him. It is the biggest zing (zoom?) for the buck.

my insurance says its a coupe
and i guess what makes it a "coupe" is that you have to open the front doors in order to open the rear doors. if it was a sedan, you'd just be able to hop through the back doors without opening the front.
