Hello everyone, this is my first post, yet i've been looking at the website for at least the past 3 months, anxious as most are about getting themselves a RX-8 as well. Here are some questions that I have been thinking about to ask. First of all, some facts as to why and how I will be getting the RX-8. I am 17, turning 18 in February and my grandparents have worked some stuff out with me so I will be able to get the car as a 18th birthday/graduation gift. Since I don't want to wait another day after I turn 18 to get it. I figure I should avoid some future problems now.
1. If you pre-order the car, how long does it normally take them to deliver? Is it really that much better than going to some major dealerships in central Florida for a generic black or winning blue, gt package?
2. How much of a transition is it to drive it first time from a 96' corolla which is a 5-speed manual?
3. I called State Farm to get a quote for insurance which is the only drawback from this deal, I will have to pay for it from my own pocket, the best I could get the price down to was $1800 for 6 months. Is there any other discounts out there besides good grades, driver's ed?
4. As far as warranties, are there any that include everything but the sound system? I plan to rip that bose audio system right out of the car, sell it on ebay, and buy me a true sound system.
5. Full cover covers any additions, body kits, engine mods, anything in the car that can be damaged, correct?
That's all for now, the only things I feel I need to know, besides though I think I have a pretty good grasp on how awesome this car is and how much better it will be when more mods come out. :D

The dealer can pick it out of port inventory. Go see him with a list of must-haves and like-to-haves. Haven't heard of Mazda factory orders like you can do on certain domestics.

It's a beeoch to wait for the car of you dreams to arrive, but after you take possession, all that waiting will be forgotten. Never grab something you don't love just to get it a few weeks earlier. I've learned this lesson the hard way over my many years.

It will be a warp jump.

Welcome to reaity, kid. Just be happy you are getting that car as a gift. I had to save up and buy my first car and it was a stupid 74 VW Super Beetle. Do you know how freaking embarrassing it is to drive a POS like that? It was the only one my dad would let me put on the policy. Once I moved out on my own, I sold it immediately and bought a '75 Celica GT which was all I could afford at the time. At least it wasn't such a chick repellant.
It's a fact that kids your age typically get in a lot more accidents - mostly because of inexperience and lack of anticipation. Add horsepower and testosterone and the rates are even higher.

No. Try replacing the speakers and amps first. There are threads here on thet subject. You rip out the head unit and the car will become devalued, IMO. Yes, I hate BOSE too. At least save the OEM electronics and bezels and put 'em back when you sell it.
5. Full cover[age] covers any additions, body kits, engine mods, anything in the car that can be damaged, correct?
Depends. Most insurance policies cover factory stock only. You may need a rider for the add-ons. Ask the agent.
For warranty work, the bumper-to-bumper covers stock vehicle and certain Mazda approved dealer installed accessories. You add aftermarket stuff and you're on your own. You may even void warranties on other parts of a subsystem that could be theoretically affected by the add-ons.

If you want a sports car & cheap insurance, try getting a 2nd gen rx-7 (convertible, coupe, Turbo II, GTU-S track model). If you need 4 doors, this is the first modern rotary from Mazda. You might find an r100, r130, rx-2, rx-3, rx-4, or rx-5/cosmo from the 70s with 4 seats as well.
Once you go rotary, you'll never want to go back.

I'm not really bothered by the insurance rate on this car. It seems cheap to my ears, full coverage on a car that's not paid for in whole. I don't mind it, I was just wondering if there were any ways to lower it, if not ,it's fine, not going to change me from getting this car. I just hope it's all it's cracked up to be.

Shop around. I'm also in Florida and we were being gouged by Nationwide. I have their homeowner's insurance and they must be trying to make up hurricane losses by increasing their car rates. I checked out State Farm, Allstate, Progressive, Geico, Response, etc. Response was the cheapest, but I never heard of them. We ended up going with Geico. It saved us $900 over six months for 2 vehicles.

You sure you want to take an RX-8 to your high school parking lot? I did that with my slightly used 01 celica and it got keyed. Really pissed me off. At least that car was used. I can't imagine what I'd do if my new 8 got keyed. Someone would die.

Congratulations on your soon-to-be new 8! I would definitely shop around for more insurance quotes. Some companies will offer a discount if for example your folks have the same insurance and that insurance also covers your home. There are a lot of variables there, but it's worth checking them out. You will really enjoy your 8. It's a wonderful little car...easy to fall in love with. Good luck!
