Getting an RX8

Getting an RX8
Hello everyone,
After many months looking, I found a good deal (I think). An 05 Shinka w appearance package and 6,000 miles for $19,000. It looks, feels, and smell like new. The guy selling the car is the original owner.
Although I love the car, I'm skeptical about the reliability of it. Lots of happy owners but also lots of unhappy people too. Carfax shows nothing but the service-in date and registration.
For the price I know I can not get anything even close to the performance, options and looks of the RX8. What do you guys think?

Welcome to the forum.
Please add location to your profile.
Why is the guy selling it? Have you spoken to the service manager? Any history of complaints?
I love the 05 Shinka and if it has a good history you'll love owning the car.

You obviously like the car enough to register on this forum, so I say go for it. Take the car to the dealership and make sure all the work has been done on the car. You'll still be under warranty and even if you had to spend a couple hundred bucks it would be well worth it, you know peace of mind. Reliability? I have 94k mile on mine, still drives like a dream. NO REGRETS!

The owner is an international MBA student that just finished school here in Philadelphia and is moving back to Germany at the end of May. According to him, he had zero problems with the car so far. He mentioned that the last time he took the car to the dealership for an oil change, they told him they reprogrammed the computer. The car is paid-off and the title is clean and on his name. What do you think about the $19,000 price?
I'm planning to stop at the dealership tomorrow and see if I can get the car history from them.

Thats a pretty smokin deal!!
I paid more than that for an '05 GT w/ 7.5 k miles on it.
It's the absolute perfect Pennsylvania car ... handles like all hell ..and just cushy enough suspension to handle PA roads!!
I used to commute on the turnpike every day ... I now find myself taking all the little back roads in to work!

I've got an 06 Shinka 3 months old and I already put 5,000 miles on her and no problems whatsoever. The previous onwer must've used it as strictly a weekend driver. I'm thinking of doing that too (for conservation ie. body damage and gas) but I just can't get myself to drive the Honda Prelude anymore even if I've done a lot of work on the Prelude it's just not as fun as the RX8! Man I would definitely get it. Can't drive the truck or the civic either, too slow. I love the curved on ramps when I can drift onto the freeway! It does depend on your location too where do you live? Just because it would be better if you were around more RX8 support like multiple dealers and other 8 owners weather climate, altitude, yaddah yaddah. The car seems to be tempermental and finicky about where she lives according to some of these posts. Plus if it snows where you are at that would mean you'd probably have to garage her until it clears. Anyhow it's your choice, it's the best bang for you buck especially at 19K with only 6,000 IMO all sports cars are going to have issues, they are sports cars. If you want reliable get a Honda.
