Getting RX8 today
I am off work in 2 hours and I be going to the local Mazda dealership in east Toronto to pick up my new 8.
I put my old 97 civic, which I've had for almost 9 years now, in the autotrader last thursday, had it sold by Monday afternoon and had my Mazda bought by Monday night.
I am very excited. I've always liked the styling and versatility of the 8. Gas costs are a bummer though. I have done my research over the last 6 months or so, but I don't know too much about the 8, but watching the top gear episode and few more times did the trick.
My civic was coming apart at the seams, so this will be nice. My CD player and radio didn't work and my alarm and keyless entry was not working. and it was slooooooow.
I tried the 350z and G35, but the 8 was cheaper and was just as fun to drive. I wasn't going to get a new one, but they had a 2005 silver GT left on the lot so I saved some money and got they over the 06 models. I have a warranty again which will be nice, but now I also have a car payment again, which isn't so nice. I got the 6 year, 160,000km comprehensive warranty so I would be covered for the length of the financing.
CAN'T WAIT to cruise around with a working CD player lol. Any tips?

Funny about the CD player - I only put it on when crusing the Interstate at speed. Around town it's the sound of the car that brings music to my ears.
Tips: Get Clear Corners & Window Tint, check your Rotor hubs for rust, keep oil in the pass thru compartment, find a twisty road and have a blast.

I just got back from about 200km of driving. Very fun, sorry I already gunned it 50 times, but it already had 500 demo km on it, so I'm guessing it was already high in the rev range.
There is a scratch in one rim, which they didn't tell me about so I am a little pissed. Although, it's impossible to keep a car perfect. So, I may just forget about it.
I do want to get those clear corners as soon as possible...
Gas mileage is scaring me... lol 200km and half a tank gone. Does anyone just use 87 octane gas in their 8?

So, 2 questions....
Firstly, I got 375 km on my fn first tank and it cost me $54 dollars to fill it up with 89 octane. I vowed to not rev so high this tank, but that is already out the windows cause this car is just so smooth. Are people using 89 or high to fill their 8? Should I be using 91 or 94? Just when it's hotter in the summer?
Also, it was wet out and I was having fun, not around the turns as I'm not confident in that yet, but in a straight line, I was in second at about 7k with the throttle wide open and the back end started to slide out. I let off the gas a bit and it snapped back into line, but it was pretty scary because there was a lot of traffic in the other lane and I was sliding that way. Did the DSC help put me back in line or was it letting of the gas (or both), would it have been much worst without DSC?
Of course, my front drive civic was much different and I could step on it in any gear in the wet and it wouldn't really matter.
Thanks!

I'm not sure about the back-end slipping out of place. But, as for the CD player, put on some classic rock and cruise in my opinion.
As for the gas, some people can run 87 and it runs good and others do it and it's terrible. I always just put premium in it just to make sure, but I have put 89 in it once and it ran fine. Just depends on your car. But, I agree, it cost me a record $40 to fill up yesterday.

A great piece of driving music is a good recording of the Beethoven 7th symphony, especially the last movement. But you need a good recording, one with a good crisp tempo. (my Solti performance, for instance, disappointed, which surprised me because usually Solti is excellent) Let me recommend the Christoph von Dohnanyi with the Cleveland Orchestra.

Don't you guys know, to be an official Rx8 member that you need to have clear corners But anyways, for about 7 months now I've noticed that I got better gas mileage when I use a tank of 89 octane. For me, I just use 89 octane for daily driving and 91 or higher if Im going to do some spirited driving.
