stew> i've had the seatbelt retractors stick once upon a time also. the guys here said it just happens sometimes and after driving the car again and shutting off the ignition it resets itself. and, they were right. my rear doors didn't get stuck again after that. it was pretty weird.

hope u get to the bottom of the problem soon.

Oh, but then I'd have to unbury it from all the Starbucks napkins I've accumulated in the glovebox.

And I think that's the issue - because the door switches aren't working, they aren't "resetting" the security system out of auto-lock mode.

The re-lock with the fob also has to do with the lights flashing. If you pop the trunk and youv'e unlocked the doors with the fob, the doors will relock if you don't open a door within 20 sec without flashing the lights. Then when you close the trunk lid, the lights flash. Same if door is open when you lock the car with the fob, won't flash the lights until all doors are closed. I just don't understand how mine locked itself at the air pump, I don't think that I hit anything like the fob or the door lock button.

Well, the Demons were exorcised today. The final straw was that I noticed the "door ajar" warning light, nor the trunk warning light were illuminating when the ignition was on and you opened the door or trunk. An entire circuit of door switches was not operating.

Turns out when they were installing the new airbag harness they skinned a wire in this circuit and that caused the entire problem. They needed a whole day to trace it down until they found the problem. Zip zap with tape and a shrink tube and all is well again.

So, let's see how it lasts. They did fix the car.

Have to say after three years of sucking, Autobarn Mazda in Evanston, IL finally seems to be getting their **** together and I attribute it all to one guy - Chris - the parts and service mgr (PM me if you want his last name). He's collaborative, sharp, nice to deal with, and above all, doesn't treat you like a dolt. Great guy - hope they keep him around as if the service continues to be like this, I'd consider another Mazda when this goes off lease (hello Mazdaspeed 6?) - especially if they "version up" the 8 for 2008 or 2009.

You haven't been driving some trashy 350Z or something behind her back right?

She probably found out you were driving other cars and is now pissed off at you.
