Going drag racing tonight!!
Going racing again tonight. For those who remember I went for my first time about 2-3 weeks ago and ran a 15.5@89 mph with a terrible launch.
>Does this sound right? Launch at 4-5K feathering the clutch
>What psi should be in my rear tires, I had 35psi all around last time. Does 20psi sound right?
*Im still learning drag racing and my car is lightly modded. CAI, midpipe, lowering springs. I want to get my car into the 14's, just to prove to myself that my engine still has compression because Im so paranoid lol. And my goal is 91-93mph trap speed, last time it was 89 which is very low for an RX8.
Goal: mid-high 14's @ 91-93mph.
Feel free to give advice/comment. Ill post times around 10pm cali time when I get back

i go with usually 32-34 psi. rev to like 7k and feather it from there with the dsc off. i got 14.8 with the same mods you have (without the springs) you shift like u stole it and drop it from 8k, probably get like 14.5 lol

In autocrossing many people put chalk marks on their tires from the sidewall to the tread. The parts of the chalk that get scuffed off let the drivers know what parts of the tire are being used.
I have only been to two different drag strips so I don't know if this method is used to set tire pressures the same as in autocrossing. (But I am guessing it could help)

first of 35 pounds is way too much air, i mean its ok but yea... run about 25-27 pounds, if your on stock tires dont launch that high i would recomend 4k launch stock tires hook worth schit

dont shift hard try to shift smooth into second gear...kinda give it a quick little feather, jerky shifts slow you down, also heat/spin your tires before each run, very important because it cleans the tires off, may also help with your wheel hop, if your goal is to trap 93 then dont even bother with 4th gear just redline third....edit:i think im too late

wow, okay. Each time I ran I would perfect one thing but screw up on another.
I ran a 15.9 @ 92 mph with a 3.9 sec 60' and probably the worst launch ever. (Stayed in 3rd, never shifted) (6K feathering *attempt*)
Next I ran a 15.4 @90 mph with a 2.3 sec 60' time but my reaction was .8 seconds....WOW (PERFECT 5K LAUNCH FEATHERING)
Last I ran against a Civic Si, I ran a 15.8 @ 88 mph and actually won lol.
(5k feathering but wheel hopped)
My car has trouble getting into 4th so my best trap time so far has been ran in 3rd at 92 mph. If I could take all the attributes from each race and just run one perfect run I have absolutely no doubt I would be in the 14's.
Fun night, I was the only rotary there so I learned a lot and Im slowely accepting that my car is not a drag car. Im glad I trapped 92 so at least I know my cars engine is still good lol. Feel free to comment/give advice.

deer all noobs: reaction time has nothing to do with 1/4mi time. The clock does not start till you move.
looks like you need to work on your launch. Maby the track is kind of slick. It helps to ask other drivers what they are getting. Also street tires dont like heat just give them a quick spin outside the water box to clean them up. Spinning in the box will throw water up in the wheel wells and it will drip back on the tires when you are wating to launch.

Oddly enough...from 7k...with lots of initial wheelspin on RPF1's/275's was the fastest...which was counter to what I've found before which was to dump at 5.5k...
Back then I didnt have this much traction, power, or suspension modifications...
Unfortunately I'm having 2nd/3rd gear syncro issues...so I havent done a 0-60 test for a looong time...most of the track stuff doesnt really demand lighting fast shifting so its not a huge issue yet...I'm also trying to be as gentle as possible...
I'm also not used to the additional 9 ft/lbs of torque from the stage 3 maps...heh

According to the CobbAP (unverified claims basically...not a track slip from a calibrated system) I am able to consistently get 0-60 in 6.0 (+/- 0.40) seconds on average and I have seen 5.6 seconds once...and the 1/4 at low 14s...easily...
Until I get a time slip from a track...I'm not really trusting the results...

Chalk your tires...and get yourself some sway bars for your wheel hop issue...clean your car out...and run it with 1/2 tank of gas...

I love drag racing! its my favorite by far! But then again i grew up w/ chevelles and camaros so i guess its in my blood. I like the road coarse too, as i have not done it on a track i know i will like it and will be doing it at the drag strip here also. *drag strip also has a track coarse*
**oh by the way chevelles arnt my time period just all my family had them, im only 22**
