Hi everyone, i'm going to Japan for two weeks in August. I'm thinking i want to order some rare parts direct from Japan. (e.g. RE Amemiya, Autoexe, etc)
1) Does anyone know if there are things that you can only buy there? (i.e. parts i wouldn't otherwise be able to otherwise order through japanparts, or lazi?)
2) What should i get!? i don't mean this in a "tell me what mod to buy" but rather, what would be most unique coming from the jdm. So far i'm liking the RE Amemiya exhaust manifold and dolphin tail exhaust. What else?
3) My budget is around 5,000 USD for the right parts.
Any help offered would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
ps: just a side note, but i'm booking tickets today and first class for one person is 10,000 USD. I couldn't believe it. (no i'm not going first class)

10K for first class sounds about right. Do you think a Ferrari worth its price ? Some think so, but not me.
Hmm I think you can buy most of the stuff from our vendor here .... if u cant buy them, u probably cant use them, for example, the FEED's ECU tunning, or the Re-Amemiya Strut tower brace.
You might be able to save some middleman cost if you can get it local. but unless you know japanese and order them in advance, I dont think u can just walk in and buy them.

I wouldn't buy any super-expensive parts in the Land Of the Red Dot you can get here anyways. Perhaps just get some nice little JDM trinkent you can't get imported here. Hell, pick up some JDM Honda Civic shift ***** and sell them on EBay for $200 bucks a pop!
I would rather use that money to experience some cool nightlife, some Sushi bars and upgrade to a better hotel.
The JDM parts aren't going to expell some kind of vodoo magic on your 8. It's only really a bling factor- just not what I'm into all that much. I guess if I didn't care about that $5k then I would do it.

First, there's plenty of little trinkets that you won't find anywhere else that you could throw in your car. No need or savings in lugging back parts.
Second, take the rest of your budgeted money and find a way to rent an FR car. Take it out for a spin on those infamous mountain pass roads, just like Initial D. Ya'll think I'm kidding, but I'd do that first chance I got.

I go to Japan about every other month for business. Every once in a while I'll pick something up for the car, but never anything large, as it's a pain lugging it back.
Japanparts.com can get just about anything you want, even if it's not listed on their website. Sure it costs a bit more to go through them, but getting it yourself can be a big hassle.
First off, you need to know where to go. Most of the car shops are not close to train stations, as they expect that you'd be coming by car. Second, it really helps if you can speak the language, so you can discuss what you want to do to your car. If you don't speak any Japanese and nobody there speaks English, you could be SOL. And after all that, you've still got the hassle of bringing the stuff back.
If this is your first trip to Japan, IMHO, there's lots of better things to be doing there vs. hunting down rare car parts.
But one place you might want to visit is the Super Autobacs store in Tokyo Bay. It's easy to get to via train. The store is like a Costco filled with car stuff. They've got a small isle of Mazdaspeed, AutoExe, and RE Amemiya. I suppose they could order a specific item for you, if you know what you want. But I'm not really sure, as I've only purchased things off the shelf from there.

I thnk it has been stated already - Japan is not the Moon.
Have a blast on your trip, and hunt down a few little things to bring back to enjoy.
The dedicated importers prob have a line on anything that can be marketed. But please tell us if you find something!

hey everyone, thanks for the input. i guess it doesn't make much sense to lug back an exhaust. (seems obvious to me now). i definitely am not spending all of my time buying/searching things for the car. i'm headed to osaka, tokyo, and kyoto. for part of the time i plan on hiking from one hot spring resort to the next. i also have friends scattered throughout that i plan on visiting. it should be a great trip.
thanks rx-hachi, i'll definitely check out that store.
even if i don't buy something significant for the car, i still want to check out RE Amemiya if i can.
