Going from a Millenia to an RX-8 :O
Helllooooo!! guys/gals, first time posting here, been reading the forums for a few days now. Just going to say that this is an extremely great website w/ a ton of information for noobies like myself!
anyways...finally making the shift from my 95 mazda millenia to something a bit more fun . Even though there is nothing wrong with the millenia (250k miles on it) I need something a bit more exciting!
I have been checking out this '05 RX-8 (sadly it's auto :/....) with about 53k miles on it, White Pearl, and it's had only one owner before. They say the owner had nothing wrong with it, just wanted to trade it in for a new Lexus I something or other. I had the people at Lexus send the car to a Mazda dealer to check it out and everything, there are no open campaigns on the car yada yada. All the recalls have been done to it. I even test drove it a few times, found nothing wrong with it. However, my only concern is that it already has 53k miles on it, and I don't know if it's worth the 15.9k they want for it. I completely forgot to ask them if that extended 8yr/100k warrantly would be applied to that car or not, because on the sticker on the car it says it has some bogus 90 day warranty where they cover 50% of the repairs blah blah.
Just wanted to see what you guys/girls thought of it. Is that a fair price? I'm going to try and see if I can get it for 15k total. Oh and meh this isn't anything spectacular but the previos owner put 20'' rims on it + new rotors/pads/tires before he traded it in. Think they raised the price on the car just because of that?

I have been looking for a used RX-8 for a while now, the ONLY ones that ever come up out here are auto's, if a manual one ever came around I would highly consider it over an auto. Only manual ones around here are the brand spanking new ones that I can't quite afford :/

The price is too high for an auto. I just googled "ohio used rx8 manual" and see several manuals for around 15K@50~60,000miles. I'm sure if you look hard, you'll get find a comparably priced/miled manual.

so you do realize that the only reason to buy an automatic sports car is if you don't know how to drive a stick, or if you have one leg?
So if you don't know how to drive a stick then you shouldn't be looking for a sports car anyway. I would consider a family sedan.
But it sounds like you probly know how, so logically it makes sense to wait a few months for a good manual version to appear instead of getting an auto now and regretting it later.

Yes, of course I know how to drive a stick
Oh when I said I couldn't find any used mt rx-8's, i just meant my area of the state, not the entire state itself. I live in NE ohio, near the willoughby area. I've been cruising around looking for rx-8's around here for 1-2 months and only came across 3 of them (all 3 auto). but i guess if it continues to be this difficult to find one, i'll probably consider going further out to get one.
also on those 3 that i found, it seemed like all 3 deals they offered were pretty bad.
that 05 one i was talking about ~17k total. (lexus dealer)
another 03 i found w/ 70k miles ~16k total. (mazda dealer)
another 03 w/ around 50k ~ 15k total. (toyota dealer)
i guess opening up to more of the state will help a lot. what would you guys say the normal rate on mt preferably 05 and newer would be?
and thanks for the responses/tips!
