Going to Talk to Dealer... Any Suggestions?

I've been drooling over the RX8 since I first saw it and have finally brought myself to go to the dealer and see what can be done for my drooling.

I am going tomorrow, but after pricing one out tonight, they are pricey... I'm sure there will be no special financing, etc. so I would be stuck with a high payment (are they being leased?). I also like the Mazda6 and I can load that up and be about $5000 less than the RX8 I would want. Can anyone convince me otherwise to get the RX8? I won't get the room like the 6 has with the seats folding down and since I have a Jetta now, I would lose a lot of the practicality. I'm 24 and I think my next car will be a station wagon or the family truckster. Please help!

Signed,
Frustrated

I really like the 6, it is a very well rounded car, decent room, plenty of power, and a really nice ride. I think it would be a good switch from the Jetta. Something my wife pointed out to me (god i love her) is that it would probably be easier to get a Baby into and out of a baby seat in the 8 than the 6, because of the suicide doors, so don't let the family trukster idea be your only reason for switching to the 6 instead. In the end it will probably come down to timing and price. The 6 is quite a bit cheaper, and will be a LOT easier to get your hands on. This late in the game, i'm not sure when your car would get here if you pre-ordered an 8 now. BUT, you could probably go to a dealer in the Jetta, and drive home a Mazda6 if you were so inclined. It really will depend on what you need and want and can afford.

Dude, are you nuts?
There's no reason to do that!

I'll quote a porche ad from the new Sports Car International mag:

"You're a dad. You're not dead!"

When i was 16 I drove an '84 chevy wagon. It had seatbelts for 9!

The only thing good about that car was the fact that I could ram things and not do any damage to the car.

so, don't make yourself suffer.

My suggestion: don't 'price one out' - just get a base auto - if you can stand an auto - or the base 6speed - both are excellent cars, and not pricey at all compared to the competition, be that as it may be hard to find, but still you'll pay a lot less than a BMW 3 series or a 350Z or a G35 - with an RX-8 you can probably put the station wagon off for a few years!

The 6 is an excellent car for the money.. So is the 8. I think it just comes down to the price you feel you can afford. I have a friend that is buying a car in June. He is in a similar situation as you. He REALLY wants the RX8, but the 6 is more within his price range. I was at my Mazda dealer yesterday and I saw a 6 fully loaded in dark gray with the sport package. Let me tell you, it is a damn good looking car. At this point, if you order an 8, you may be waiting a while. However, if you want the 6 with V6 and manual trans, you will still have a bit of wait. My dealer was quoting a 6 week wait for that config.

If I thought the 8 was a bit out of my price range, I would buy the 6 in a second. If I were a little younger, I would pickup the MazdaSpeed Protege.

if you want the 6 with the 6cyl you may have to shop around quite a bit, they are in very short supply here in the states
