Goodbye to the 8

Goodbye to the 8
About 6 months ago I trading in my wife's Maz3 for a 2006 VW GLI with DSG. It fulfilled my "go" urges, making my 2004 RX-8 manual expendable. Since I owed my bride a car at this point, I picked up an automatic Acura TSX for her yesterday, with the RX-8 as the trade. I had 26 months to go on the 8 lease, so it ended up costing me $2,500 to get out (car was "bought" by Acura dealer for about $21k, and I was given "trade in" value of $18.5K).
I have nothing but good things to say about the 8. Never gave me a problem, always gave me thrills. Although I don't own a manual car anymore, the DSG transmission in the GLI is awesome, and the high torque engine makes for a great drive train in the VW
Good luck to all, and I hope that you guys eventually have a turbo option.

I ended up with the GLI, my wife ended up with the TSX. Even without a $500.00 chip, the GLI is faster than the RX-8.
Pretty rude comment to an RX-8 guy. Torque envy, Kings8?

Hope your wife appreciates that 2500 you pissed away to get out of your 8. Mine would have heard that and said if we are spending 2500 it is going to be at the jewelery store on new diamond earrings.

You need to drive both the GLI and the RX-8 over a period of time before you can say which is quicker, like I have. The DSG is quicker than the RX-8 AND manual GLI. The RX-8 is quicker than the manual GLI. There are relatively cheap mods for the GLI ($500-600 chip) that offer large boosts in performance. The RX-8 needs a turbo, which is much more money.
I'm not dissing the RX-8. The GLI is a SPORTS SEDAN. The RX-8 is a SPORTS CAR. Different types, different purposes. Of all the cars I've owned in 35 years of driving, the RX-8 is #2 on my list of best cars, surpassed only by my Subaru SVX, which was way ahead of its time. The only flaw in the SVX was the lack of a manual tranny option. The only flaw in the RX-8 is its lack of low end grunt (low gas mileage is not a flaw, just the cost of having fun).
I seriously doubt that all of the board members will be keeping their 8's for the rest of their lives, so don't be so sensitive and defensive when an owner sells. I came to praise the RX-8, not to bury it.

Regardless, have fun with your GLI, the 2.0T sounds good, the optional 18inch rims are tre cool. Hopefully you'll fare better than my old 1.8T Passat, my least reliable car ever!

Different cars, tis their a reason you wanted a 'bigger' car? Do I hear baby making music? That was the reason I dropped the stang for a more economical four-door. Something, four-cylinder, that the wife wouldn't be mad about.
I have never seen a woman's face turn so many colors, as the day I drove the Evo home. Not was she expected. She couldn't complain though, it was a four-door.
As for dropping the 8, we all have to make choices. I agree, I would have saved the 2500, and held it till the end, because I don't like to throw money away. As I tell my wife, they will always be making 'crazy' deals to sell cars.
Good luck with the VW, I can't hold back,
"Your wife UN-PIMPED your ride....VW for life...."
