Got the 8 Back - Reman Engine Break-in Period? (Dealer say's not needed)
Hi everybody,
finally got my yellow 8 back, 3 weeks later!. So reman'd engine from the east coast, what is interesting is even with the motor in, it was still mis-firing on the 2nd rotor. I'm going to call them Monday to confirm they did a re-flash on the ecu related to one of the recalls. But I confirmed (Recall Campaign stickers placed under hood, engine bay or doorpanal) and so did the dealer when i first dropped it off 3 incidents prior when they checked the VIN.
1. If it was an ecu flash needed to adjust fuel & timing, looks like the previous recall work done to it was just stickered up. (Probable cause of all these headaches).
2. tech made a flash adjustment or replaced related part causing the mis-fire CEL.
All in all, the 8 is running awesome, I had them do all the hoses while the engine was out, so I just had to pay Parts Cost.
I also just changed the cabin filter & air filter... the cabin filter is not suppose to be charcoal black, so the oil smell should go away soon
Dealer says the breakin period is not needed, but out of paranoia i'm just gunna keep it under 6k for the first 1k miles.
FYI - Techs at Everett Mazda, WA did a great job. I believe 1 of them owns an 8 themselves.

End of Story on mis-fire after new rebuild
I talked to the Service Manager. They did do a PCM Flash.... sooOOooo this probably could have been avoided prior to failure.
which means those Recall Campaign stickers under the hood and driver doorpanal don't mean squat.
I just broke the 500miles last week, and this psuodo HP is a difference between night n day. I think i'm gunna make plans to keep him. (Mans car)

Yep I heard a couple of people saying the dealer told them a break-in period is not necessary on the reman engines. Your halfway there by now so you should be ok anyways.
That's scary that the stickers were applied but the work wasn't done.
Good to see everything's smooth so far and I bet it runs a hell of a lot faster now. Hopefully your done with this for now and you can truly enjoy the car.

Yeah, i think i'm over the 'previous owner' hump. The yellow is growing on me, but i love white.. i still might throwdown 2-3k to get it painted white....... but i know my wife would rather use it towards a Disney World trip
