Got a call from my dealer about delivery
Got a call today at home from my dealer letting me know that
production was about to start and they wanted to confirm my order. He said once he confirms it I will recieve an email from mazda with my vin number as well as information on delivery date and my gift. The delivery date he told me over the phone was mid July. I was hoping for June. I preordered the car on 1/9/03. By the way im in miami florida and my dealer was Mazda of Kendall. Anybody else hear anything?

My dealer emailed me the email they got from Mazda with the full time line. For your enlightenment:
I have posted pertinent portions of the "marketing launch activities" to the relevant threads on the forum.

The Mazda RX-8 IS UP AND ROLLING! The most revolutionary sports car ever will be on its way to your dealership soon. To better explain the production and launch timing and processes, below is a calendar of key launch milestones. Also attached is a listing of some of the major marketing launch activities for the RX-8.
Jan. 7: Production RX-8 was shown for first time at the Detroit Auto Show, pricing announced.
Jan. 8: Pre-sell website opened for customer orders. Japan receives over 5,000 pre-orders, US receives over 1,200 pre-orders, US dealers report first three months of supply sold out.
Jan. 9-16: Global Long-Lead Media Preview allows 350+ journalists to drive RX-8 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Feb. 17: Mass production, job 1 (MP1), began on schedule.
Mar-Apr.: Media reviews appear in enthusiast publications and websites. Reviews strongly positive about car and engine.
Apr. 9: Public debut of RX-8 in Japan.
May 12: Mass production, job 2 (MP2), begins. MP2 cars are full-production, US-specification cars, incorporating lessons learned on MP1 (Japan market) cars.
June-July: US pre-sell customers receive six status e-mails directly from Mazda: when their car is placed in the build-stream, when a VIN is assigned, when car is built, when car is shipped, when car arrives in US and when car arrives at assigned dealership.
Mid Jul: Pre-sell RX-8s arrive at dealers.
Mid-end-Jul.: Allocated production RX-8s arrive at dealers.
As you can see, this extensive time-table is designed to ensure a strong and successful rollout of RX-8.
I know you are anxious to get this car and many have customers who also can’t wait. The RX-8 is Mazda’s worldwide flagship, and it WILL be delivered and launched perfectly. RX-8 represents everything that zoom-zoom has been promising, and I’m confident it will put us back where we should be: at the top of consumers’ minds.

It looks like no RX-8s in North America until mid to late July. If a yellow RX-8 just was delivered in Japan, more than two months after Job 1 started in Japan (and without a lengthy ocean voyage over the Pacific), and Job 2 starting only on May 12, we are probably looking at late July.

I hadn't planned on looking hard for financing until I had the vin number but that was just me. I also want to sell my old car before I buy so I will probably list that at about the same time.

You'll have another pre-approval from them within two weeks from this one expiring, if you don't take it. I had one expire April 6 or 8 or something, and I already had the same preapproval again by last week.

dammit...i hate this waiting...
well i guess i got more time to sell my car and look for cheaper financing...i still gotta strip down my car, take out the aftermarket MP3 player and sell it online, sell the 18" rims i got for it and replace the stock tires, and try to make as much money as possible to put down the 8...

Thank you for the info, TreknMazda. I think!
Well, that gives me plenty of time to get my current car all shined up for trade-in. (as the value drops further) I just wish I had more time to drive the RX-8 in non-crappy weather; summers here are nice, but short.
I guess, at least I'll have time for break-in before the cold, snow, and salt hit us.

As I said a few weeks back, I've been expecting mid-July for a while now. And July is not late given the June - August timeframe for US delivery stated by Mazda on January 8th. I personally think that those of us in the first preorder group should anticipate 8/1 delivery - and if it comes in two weeks earlier it's a good thing. I can feel the anticipation growing. Picked up a couple copies of the Mazda dealer 'mag' "Fuel" (Mar/April issue) from my dealer yesterday. Has a small blurb and a few pics of the RX-8 in it - nothing new - but they are starting to build the interest of the dealers finally. Or at least trying. I think most of them are distracted selling the other models in the lineup to care much yet. (most, not all)

What ? What happened to your Miata and your 85 RX-7 ?
What ? What happened to your Miata and your 85 RX-7 ?
When I placed my RX-8 order in January, I didn't want to be faced with the possibility of having to accept a trade-in price for the 10AE, so I put it on the market at a good price, fully prepared for it to take a while to sell, and prepared to gradually reduce the price as RX-8 delivery approached. But within a month or so someone offered me close to what I was asking, so I let it go.
We took a couple of grand from the proceeds and bought a '92 Exploder (which we've christened "Stinky"), which will (a) keep me mobile until the RX-8 arrives, and (b) give us something that we can toss the bikes and dogs into, and get out of town for weekends once the RX-8 does arrive.
If I had known that delivery wasn't going to be until late July, I might have waited another month or two to put the Miata on the market, but chances are that I would not have got the same price for it.
So I get to commute in Stinky until the new BLU TOY arrives. Does that help explain my eagerness?

this comes as a shock cuz i thought i was in the 2nd allocation and would've been surprised to get the ride by august!
this is DEFINITELY good news!!
for those that also got this great news...which allocations are u in?

I'm in the first allocation and I'm told my car will come in mid July. They also said port installed items won't delay the car's delivery because the cars have to stay in the port for a while anyways. I was expecting mid June delivery =( I'm only going to get a month or less of good driving time before I head back to school. My summer driving is ruined O well.
