Got to give up the 8 for recall work

THIS REALLY SUCKS!!!!!!!!! I HAVE TO PART FROM MY BABY!!!!!!

Anyway, I got that recall stuff about the ball joints and the gas tank. Taking it in tomorrow. Has anyone had this handled or been affected by these issues yet? Anyway, any advice on trying to get my ECU updated. I think mine is still on M flash. I want that R flash.

You must not have read the proper thread for your answers have you? You will have the new flash if you did.

If you notice on your recall, it states the computer will be reprogrammed with this recall. So yes, you will get the latest flash with this recall. This would be the most current flash to date.

Had my thermal recall done last month.....mostly because I went in for a regular service and they found my fuel tank had melted. Got the reflash as part of the recall and am very disappointed. Big loss of performance

Really? If anything, I noticed that my car doesn't give the slight hesitation it used to at WOT when shifting at redline (Say 1st to 2nd). It feels peppier, but that's probably more wishful thinking than actual results. I certainly didn't, however, notice any performance loss. Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you.

I'd love to know what causes this problem. I'd had it since I bought the car in May, 04.

The "R" flash alone didn't fix it for me, although I've read other posters who also have said it worked for them.

What DID fix it (well, for 24 hours so far anyway) was resetting the Eccentric Shaft Memory thingie... you know, the 20-brake-tap trick. I did that a few days after getting it back with the R flash, and it's like a completely different car now. I don't know if I ever reset it before the flash, so I can't say if the R flash + reset was the solution, or the reset alone.

There was also a slight "dead" spot around 7,000 rpm which seems to be gone. Pretty subtle though, I won't swear to that one.

EDIT: Oh, and yup, I was without my car for... TWO DAYS!!!!!! It was pure hell. And that was only for the thermal recall, I still have to go back for the ball joint recall.

Mine's going in on Monday, also states that I get the reprogram(current mflash). But I don't see the concern for the hesitation at WOT, it's there to give better life to tranny, etc i think. To make that go away shut it all down, then at least with mine it's gone. I've tried it twice and like the feel but rarely wring it out that hard. I asked for a loaner and was told "one hour" this should be good

Dont they have to give you loaners for warranty work. They better give a loaner, the dealers 40 mins from me and i wont have time to drop it off and pick it up before i go to work.

Yeah, I got mine in the mail also and I dread being away from my 8. I will demand a "sporty" loaner but I'll probably end up with a Nissan Sentra...lol.

The thing is they have to look at one or two other things so I might be without my 8 for a week, NO!!!!!!!!!!

Got my car back. I hear some rattling noise when I warm up my car now. Not annoying but just wondering if it's the same. After the car is all warm, it's gone. Maybe the heat changes the shielding.

As far as the R-flash, well ... my car feels smoother at WOT. The power seems VERY linear like now. My idle is slightly rougher though, but not bad.

Mine's in the dealership right now. Driving a Ford Freestar minivan for the day. Whoopee.

Looking forward to the new flash, and maybe a free front-end alignment if they replace the control arms.

I'm assuming that it takes a day to do the repairs since some of you mentioned driving other cars for a day...any of you have it take longer?

i'm taking mine in for the gas tank recall tomorrow morning. i've told my boss i'm going to stay there until they're done, so i can watch them put it on the lift, take it off the lift, then take it outside and park it for me. there should be no reason for a test drive.

Took mine in yesterday, not all of the RX8 have the messed up control arm, mine did not. They can looked on the computer and tell you if your RX8 has it or not.

Only repair was fuel tank insulation and computer change. The problem is the car runs to rich at idle gets to hot, so it should not change hp or performance, it should actually help with gas milage, although I have Espelier JDM exhaust which already helped. If yours is melted you must be trackin it, huh?

Also, I guess there was a recall on the whole flooding problem, they will fix that also.

If under warranty they have to give you a loaner, make sure to ask. But my fix only took half a day, no need for a loaner.

Mine is going in Monday at 9am. I only need the Gas recall, but hopefully they will give me the latest flash. In the letter it says the PCM will be reset, but nothing about getting flashed. I am on the M flash right now I believe. The letter says it should take about 1 hour for the job to be done, so maybe I won't need a loaner. If they do, hopefully I get something nice, I don't see how you guys are getting these Fords and all these other cars when it's a Mazda dealership? Maybe the dealership I'm going to is just special cause all it has is new/used Mazda's

My dealership service department uses enterprise rentals--typically I get an Escape. Otherwise they give out Mazda 6s.

They did mine in about 1.5 hours: Fuel tank fix; reflash; controls arms were not in the range that needed replacement. Painless. Feels the same to me.

i took mine in at 7, before they opened, and was out at 8.08. it took all of 15 mins for them to do what they did. they did something to the pcm, but i had to get to work, so i didn't have time to ask or read the invoice.

A little info please. I saw this in an earlier post, but I didn't pay much attention. Now I have my thermal recall (also the front suspension recall in the same envelope) and I'm trying to remember what the re-flash actually does. I have been one of the lucky ones with no floods, no CELs, no problems at all. :D I almost hate to let them mess with it.

So one more time - what does the new flash do?
