Got hit

Some jack*** hit my passenger side (rear wheel area) while i was parked. Can;t drive the car because the wheel is now rubbing. Called insurance and they sent info to a body shop that will tow me tomorrow...

A couple questions:

1) Any specific instructions I need to give for towing?

2) Any reason why insurance wouldn't cover me in california? Whoever did this didn't leave a note.

3) Never dealt with a body shop before - any tips/suggestions.

Thanks in advance. This sucks. I can't get to work... have no rental car insurance, etc.

Towing: USE A FLATBED!! Dont have it towed with the wheels on the ground. Take pictures of the car from all angles beforre they tow it You never know it the towing company an get a ding on your car. Better safe than sorry.

Body shop: What Truemagellen said.

thanks. can i ask why you guys are so against using a body shop? This is just cosmetic work (at this point) and i have not been impressed with my dealer's work... plus this is their specialty no?

it comes with a lifetime warrantee through my insurance company.

just curious why you guys are against it..

thanks for the towing tip.

WAIT WAIT WAIT.....Do Californians actually leave notes? I live in NY (Long Island) and the thought of that happening here is hysterical. We leave skid marks.

Still laughing......a note...... HAHAHA

I know, I know....New Yorkers are a bunch of scumbags.

"Everyone should live in California once, but be sure to leave before it makes you soft. Everyone should also live in New York, but leave before it makes you hard."

I don't remember where I saw/heard that but it's true. NY is not a "Happy Place"

PS- We did win the AL East!

Well, the same thing happened to me with my 8. About 4 days ago, someone hit my car while it was in my parking space. But the person left a note. So her insurance company is going to fix it. Some Californians do leave notes.....but only the people with scruples.

where were you parked?? if you were at a mall or something they have security cameras.... maybe you can get a security vid if you happen to luckily park there. Then you can get a can of AW out when you meet the owner who hit ya.

the dealership isn't the one that is going to be doing the body work...they'll farm it out to their own body shop or outsource it...but the people they send it to will be experienced in mazdas and if you do your research 8s too

don't dick around with a random bodyshop...you might get screwed...ever heard of fixing a every problem (including damage to saftey systems) with body filler or insulation? yea it happens bud

You need to stick with the dealer. The problem is the paint, not the body work. The place they send it to will use a cheaper paint. You won't be able to tell right away. But in a couple of years, the aftermarket paint will begin to fade and look awfull.
