Well I've been lurking on these boards for a couple months now, I made my decision long ago to get the 8, but held off on getting it until now. Thanks to all the members of the 8club, lots of valuable information here helped me make my decision on how I wanted my 8. If I had done a impluse buy months ago I would've gotten the GT, but I opted to get the sports package (for the headroom) and get custom leather done for the interior.

Now get this: since I ordered a MS spoiler/custom leather and a few other things I didn't plan on picking my car up until it was completely ready. But yesterday when I call up my dealership to see how things are going they tell me that all the RX-8s on the lot got vandalized......except mine. They had mine parked in a different fenced off area since it was sold already. Apparently the vandals shattered the driver side windows of all the 8s and stole the gear shift *****....what A-holes...

So they thought it would be safer if I just took it home since those vandals may come back.

So I took it home and spent a few hours driving around at night. Although I had test driven it several times, I really got a feeling for it last night. The gearing is so awesome on this car, great acceleration for freeway passing too.

Sure enough not 5 minutes on the freeway I see some dude in my rear view mirror coming up behind me slowly, then when he sees that its an 8 in front of him he kicks it into high gear and blows past me doing at least 100. I was already doing 80 and there was plenty of traffic around, so I just laughed at the dude in his red Mitsushitsi 3kGT. :p

Help out a 'part ignorant' person here guys... why would the vandals want the shift ****? Why only the shift ****? (Nissan Maxima lights are what immediately come to mind).

Someone told me thats the big thing for "ricers" to steal these days. I did notice at other dealerships they had the gear shift ***** taken off their cars, I now understand why.

Pretty dumb to risk going to jail over a 40$ leather ****....then again vandals aren't very smart to begin with.
