Got my first one!

...speeding ticket, that is. I know that I don't know many of you here (wish I had more time to socialize), but I still thought everyone would like the confirmation that...Yes, your car is a cop magnet.

My $230 fine will confirm that.

...of couse, I WAS speeding, so it's partially my fault as well.

I'm more interested in why you breaking the law is only "partially" your fault.

I'll let you in on a little known secret.

I received a ticket for going more than 50 mph over the posted speed limit and got away with a $80 fine. The trick is, you have to go so fast that they will have to impound your car. This means filling out forms, having your car towed, etc. Their alternative is to reduce the infraction and you get off with barely a slap on the hand.

It's worked well me. Either go the speed limit or go all out :>

no offense but thats the stupidest thing i've ever heard.... if you go all out and a cop clocks you doing 120 MPH you really think hes gonna just impound your car and make you fill out paper work? I don't know where you live, but in NJ you go over 90 MPH or esp hit tripple digits they arrest you, and I'm pretty sure you're gonna get slapped with speeding/reckless driving/pedesterian motorist endangerment (newest NJ law)... I know this because my cousin is a NJ state trooper.... soo I wouldn't go all out.. I'd either keep the speed limit or go a few over where the cop won't come after you...

Four things:

1) It's a true story.

2) I was joking that others should follow this advice. You never know what the cop will do. Use common sense before you start bitching.

3) I'm good friends with several people in the nj state police, and I have stfa cards, get out of jail stickers, etc.

4) #3 doesn't matter since I no longer live in NJ.

I havent had a speeding ticket in 8 years.
Where was the cop who gave you the ticket ?
Following you? Passing you from opposite direction? Hiding in the bushes?(entrapment)
Cant spot a cop before he spots you?

cops tend to hide in recessed areas in between the right and left lanes, usually after a bridge or tree so that there is no way to see them till you have gone past them. They do similar things on the sides of bridges, around corners, etc. If the cop is in broad daylight and you spot him beforehand, he's not trying.

I guy in the Portland area was clocked doing 146 last week in a Mercedes. He said he was late to a meeting. He got slowed down when he hit the Portland area and the traffic got heavier so he pulled over to take his ticket. They impounded his car, took him to jail, are suspending his license for 90 days, and he has to pay an $1100 fine.

Sorry to have started this thread and then disappeared. My fine is for 81mph in a 65mph zone. Total cost: $230 and 4 points.

Normally I am very good at spotting cops BEFORE they spot me. I have never had a radar detector and this will be my 2nd ticket in 9 years of driving. All that happened was I approached a slower moving semi from behind...both of us in the far right of three lanes. He moved over into the center lane, and I followed suit...with the intent of then moving into the far left lane to complete the pass. Unfortunately, the reason the semi moved over was a police officer was parked on the right hand shoulder. When the semi moved over he must have had a clear shot at me. I, of course, slowed and did not pass the semi...but it was too late. Just bad luck, I guess.

And, yes...I know it is hard to detect sarcasm over the internet, but I realize that this is 99% my fault. 1% my car's fault, because it's just too easy to drive her fast!
