What if you run something over but it happens in heavy traffic so even though you do see the object, you have no way to avoid it due to other cars around you? The argument that "if he was paying attention he would have seen the object" doesn't apply here... although it's certainly hard to prove that you could not swerve or hit the brakes without hitting another car or getting rear-ended.

Husky, I did not just rush and file a claim. I consulted with my insurance agent before I went through with everything. I have an accident grievance under my policy, so there is no impact on my rates. I am not going to waste effort into debating what's right and wrong here because at the end of the day it will not change how I plan on spending the money. My conscience can't wait to get all these mods installed. Also, in the grand scheme of things I think my $2300 claim has no impact on everyones rates when we have other things to blame like Ike and economy.
Anyways, back to the real topic...what else should I install???

Also, to add some perspective to the claim. The incident occurred late at night on a street that is currently undergoing construction (Kirby for those of you that live in Houston). There was no opportunity to avoid the item b/c I never saw it.

Get Allstate and accident forgiveness My last wreck totaled my 8 but my rates didn't go up and they signed me up for another year. Helps to have two houses, two cars and three life insurance policies. Oh and I made 5K off the accident. The OP didn't take advantage of the insurance company, he just took a riskier route. If you insurance pays you 2K to fix your bumper because that's how much a repair shop will charge are you doing something bad by fixing it your self and only spending 1K. I think not.
