Got my new 8.. have some questions
Hello everyone! I just got my new RX8 Black AT and I love it! Heres my few questions:
1) Is $22700 a good deal for 05?
2) Do I really need to rev the engine before shut down if its AT?
3) I herd the rotary engine eats engine oil.. how often do I need to add? (In terms of miles)
4) What kind of wax works the best? IYO
5) Isn't mixing different types of engine oils bad?
6) Finally, if you live in southern california.. Whats a good setting for a MP3 FM transmitter?
Thanks everyone!!

I can't answer all of these, I'm still new
Only $22.7 for an 05? Pretty good deal...how many miles? You would of enjoyed the stick shift more, however.
It does take up more oil than the average car...but you're gonna have to check it yourself every weekend or so. You might need oil every month, or you might need oil every week.

1. cost seems very reasonable although the ATs are cheaper, less hp...I have a shinka which is top of the line...05 MT....sticker was 33500
2. they say to rev the engine if you start it but dont really drive it a distance...just to remove any excess gas....ie moving it in the drive way
3. check the oil every other fill up...usually burns 1qt every 3000 mi
5. dont know which wax is best...but I used Meguiars NXT....goes on really nice and comes off easy...great shine...no dust
6. I live on the east coast.....sorry

2) No, not with the new flashes. No.
3) you heard right, check the oil at the gas station while you're filling up every week or so, check the oil with the engine off after it's warmed up (i checked it today after i arrived at work, i let it sit for a few mins to let it cool, but that's optional) I keep a quart of oil and a rag in the car (under the hood infront of passenger seat)
4) Zaino
5) not really just mix the same weight 5-20 non-synthetic
6) dont know

Let me just respond to the oil question.
Somebody here said it burns a quart every 3000 miles. That pretty much matches my experience. Since I don't think anybody gets remotely close to 3000 miles on two tanks of gas, I think the "check it every other fill-up" advice is overkill; I did it religiously in the beginning but now I check it every 3 or 4 fills. I'd recommend you check it every other at first, until you get a handle on how it is doing, but then maybe you can back off.
In short, so far I've found the "ooooo, the rotary burns so much oil!" gnashing of teeth to be vastly overstated. Keep an eye on it but don't lose sleep over it.
Keeping a quart of oil in the car, though, probably IS a good idea. My local Mobil station doesn't stock the right kind of oil, I have to go to the auto parts store. It would really suck to be at the one gas station in Buttpimple, Wyoming, need oil, and find that they don't have 5W20.

Thanks everyone for their answers! I will definately keep a bottle of oil in the trunk. :D
Mine is bare AT, no options. Except the dealer will put red leather in for me for $400. I had to wrestle to get that price too.
It came with 60miles. So pretty much new except delivery.

1) I got the 6spd MT, and paid a bit over MSRP so I'm sure you got a better deal than me.
2) Run it upto 3k RPM for about 10 seconds ONLY if it's not upto normal operating temperature before shutting off.
3) Only about 1/2 quart every 1000-1500miles.
4) I use meguires NXT and it's pretty good and a decent prices. Zaino (sp?) look a bit better though.
5) Don't know.
6) Get a PIE adapter, FM modulaters are icky!
Nice choice of car btw, I got mine 8 months ago and smile everytime I drive it.

Sounds like your got a base model auto, if you got one of the sport, touring or grand touring packages with the auto then its an even better deal! What was the sticker on the car vs what you paid?
2) Do I really need to rev the engine before shut down if its AT?
Only when the car is started and stoped before its fully warmed up...most of the time (esp if your in So Cal) driving the car around for ~10 mins should be more than enough to get you up to temp and you can start/stop it like any other car. The times to follow the 'rev before shutdown' would be if the car is cold and you start it up to back it out of the garage (say to wash it) and shut it down...the car has only been running for a few secs...while the flooding issue isnt a very big concern anymore, you could follow the rev/shutdown instructions just to be on the safe side. I have had my 05 since May and i dont do the rev/shutdown, granted in in central FL and the lowest temp since I got the car has been about 62*F but no problems yet!
3) I herd the rotary engine eats engine oil.. how often do I need to add? (In terms of miles)
By its design it will use a small ammount of oil. Its hard to say how often you should add oil to keep it full. I go thru about 1qt of oil ever 1k miles, so i end up adding about 1/4 of a qt every weekend. Some go longer bettween adding, some shorter...but the best thing to do is just check the oil ever time you fill up, or every other time and make a note of when it needs it and add it when you can. I check the oil and tires every time I fill up, then make a note of how low it is and add it the next time im at home. Doing it every time I fill up is 2nd nature now, and I can usualy be done checking the oil and all 4 tires by the time the pump shuts off after filling the car, so its really not taking any extra time.
4) What kind of wax works the best? IYO
I like ALL the Mothers Products, Zymol is good but i dont like all the dust. I DO NOT like the Meguires products as I think they leavy a greasy feel and oil look.
5) Isn't mixing different types of engine oils bad?
Mixing brands of oil isnt a big deal, but you DO NOT want to mix synthetic oil with non-synthetic and you dont want to mix weight (ie 10w30 with 5w30) I think your asking this cause you have to top off the oil, Since i got the car (7 miles on it when i signed the papers (6 miles from my test drive )) till 8k miles (just last weekend) I used 5w20 (recomened oil weight) Castrol GTX non-synthetic, at 8k miles I changed over to fully synthetic oil so from now on I will add 5w20 syn.
6) Finally, if you live in southern california.. Whats a good setting for a MP3 FM transmitter?
Just tune around and find a station that has no other signal on it and as little static as you can find.
