man, thats horrible... I hate dealer shops... they are always so backed up with fixing up used cars to sell (and they only fix enough to sell them, they usually break right after you buy them) so your stuff never gets done.

this is some bs.

they told me it could be the electircal system or something worse than that. They told me they had to call the "mazda hotline" or something like that. i was confused. I was like, don't you know how to fix a car? what in the world do you have to call a hotline for? They must be stupid.

The dealer is moving really slow providing me with no updates ever, i call them they said they have no futher updates from this morning. So basically they did no work on the car the whoole day.

I'm pissed. Can I call mazda and complain or somethinig?
adidas, the hotline is so the techs can talk to Mazda engineers and get specifics on how to diagnose certain conditions with the car that the books and computer are not telling them how to do, it is actually a very good thing for them to talk to the engineers. I would let them have another day or 2 to try and figure it out, it is not like you are paying for them to fix it. I know, I know you want your car back to enjoy, but I also hope you want them to figure the problem out and fix it correctly. Just be patient, if it isn't fixed in a day or 2 and they are not giving you the feedback you thing you deserve, then call the Mazdausa number and ask if they can help. Remember be nice to the service department and they generally will be nice to you.

The dealer said they saw some oil in the throttle body, but couldn't diagnose anything else because they didn't have the latest software updates to run more diagnostics.

I call BS on this dealer, this dealer has NO clue what the freak they are doing

Thumbs down

dealer said they are going to run compression test. TAKING FOREVER! he says there software is out of date. He said it could be blow apex seals.

that means new engine right?

this is the worst experience of my life. I bought the car, drove it 1 f'n mile and now it's at the dealer and may need a new f'n engine. WTF bad luck is that. seriously.

I think you're letting your emotions get the best of you here. I'd be pissed also BUT... if the compression test comes out bad, that's a GOOD THING!

You bought this car used, and who knows what the hell the last owner (or everyone who test drove it) did to the poor engine. Getting a new engine and being able to KNOW every mile that engine has sure would give me peace of mind...

Keep us posted

It will more than likely be refurbished. The quality control is pretty high with Japanese companies though, so I would imagine that the refurbished engine will be just as reliable as a brand new one.

The Mazda 'tech' calls the hotline because the vehicle may not have been throwing any codes on the scan tool.....(which is the only way they can diagnose problems these days). The term 'mechanic' has no place in present day repair shops. Today you have 'part changers' that change parts based only on codes pulled by the scan/diagnostic tool. The guy changing the parts is a trained monkey in the art of screw/bolt loosening and tightening. That is not to say that every tech is just a parts changer......but it seems that more and more so called mechanics have little clue about why they are changing the part and how that part effects the system overall. And to the guy who thinks the tech talks to engineers.......I don't think so. The folks at the tech hotline are merely glorified/former techs who just happen to have access to the company's latest information. Occasionally the company may send a FSE (Field Service Engineer).....but they do not answer the hotline telephones.

My advise to anyone.......never believe anything the stealership tells you. How can you tell the service writer is lying? His lips are moving.

Maisis and BG, you are panicking. Adidas bought a used car from Ohio and had it shipped to Cali. Who knows what the hell the car was put through by the previous owner. You guys are the 1st owners of your cars. No worries for either of you.

Got my baby finally. Dealer finally found the problem. The dealership I bought it from, or the owner put 7 quarts of fuel in it and it was leaking everywhere. they had to replace the spark plugs and clean out the oil. and then it worked. i don't know why it took that long to figure it out! 5 days?!? anyways, car is fine now i hope, my question is how come the car wouldn't start and lights wouldn't work? aren't the lights just ran by that battery?

I am not sure what you mean by 7 quarts of fuel and it leaking everywhere, was the car flooded? But you drove it a couple blocks and then it stalled, so it shouldn't have been flooded. If you have the original Panasonic battery then it probably dies because they have ver little juice in them. Glad you got you car back though, have fun.

From reading the rest of his post, I think he meant oil.

it took the dealer 5 days to find out that the car was filled with too much engine oil? That is dumb. A quick look at the dip stick would tell the story.

Anyway, glad to hear that you get your car back in good shape now.

That makes sense now, since the total amount of oil in the engine and coolers is close to 7 quarts. I bet the previous dealership didn't understand that only 3-4 quarts come out with an oil change.

Having too much oil doesn't affect your hazard lights. You clearly had an electrical issue, most likely a dead battery.

If the oil was overfilled so much it got on the MAF, then the car may not run right but to blame the oil level for the electrical issues sounds fishy to me. Can you quote from your service report specifically what the problem diagnosis was and what they did? I wonder if they gave you a new battery.
