Got my RX8 Today and 1st Speeding Ticket Ever
I've been a member of this forum for a long time now and have always wanted to get an RX8. Today is the day when it all comes together. I am so happy!!! I got a 2004 GT with AT. Had to fly to Myrtle Beach, SC and drive it back to Buffalo, NY. It's red and everyone just stare at the car.
On my way back from SC, I was stopped by a cop since I didn't have plates on - I had the temporary registeration tag in my car on the rear window. On verifying my information, he shook hands with me congratulating me - he liked the car. He left without a hitch.
I also got my first ticket today !!!! That was really sad. Another cop pulled me over in PA for 75/55. The drive was 14 hours and I drove the speed limit all along until I decided to go a little faster and bam I got ticketed. I have to pay $155 but I would try to plead not guilty by mail to see if I can get off. I already have high insurance rates and wouldn't like to get higher rates. Any comments??

I live in PA and always hold it on 75-80 mph on the Interstates (along with most of the other cars on the road). Have passed many troopers alongside the road with their radars and never been pulled over. So maybe you should be thankful that he didn't charge you with your real speed. Think positive. :D

I've heard that the RX-8 feels the same at 125 and at 60. It's very smooth. That's why I have to set the cruise control on the highway or else I'll find myself going faster than I expected.

State Trooper? From my experience they usually don't give breaks. If they take the time pull you over, you get a ticket. In PA only state troopers can use radar (by law) unless the locals get a special exemption (or something like that) for a "special" sting operation and the exemption is only valid for a certain time.
Locals can use laser and vascar to get you. Everyone remember that. So when you speeding through PA and think you're safe with your radar detectors, unless you are on the Turnpike or a road only patroled by state troopers, you can get nabbed.

yeah, NY state would not record this violation. I'll just pay the ticket and be careful next time. My Rex rocks though. :D It gives me the chills - the body is an amazing piece of art. With all the smooth curves and muscular (macho) feel ...lol...Wondering if I can handle the attention I get from other drivers...the look on their faces is like WHAO...what is this...intimidated People literally wave to me from their cars... :p :o

A PA state trooper gave me a bit of a break once, writing me a "too fast for conditions" instead of a straight speeding ticket. 50% discount, essentially. I was driving a Beige Family Sedan at the time, though, so I guess I looked like I didn't mean to go that fast.

well, first of all you made a huge mistake by getting red on the east coast (where the background everywhee is dark green...makes the red REALLY stand out!)...and secondly, your going to need to invest in a quality radar detector so you can go fast and not have to worry about it...that way when it beeps you just put on the binders!

Only one ticket in nearly two years (before I got my Valentine 1), then I had a really bad month--35 in a 25 on the AF base, 80 in a 70 cresting a hill in Texas, and 65 in a 45 in Gulfport just after I turned off the V1 at the end of a 400 mile drive. I routinely drive 1600 miles+ monthly on the I-10.

If I get a ticket for a moving violation in another state, do I receive points on my NYS driver license?
The NYSDMV does not record out-of-state violations committed by NYS drivers in other jurisdictions. The exceptions are alcohol-related violations, drug-related violations, and moving violations committed in Quebec or Ontario. Under special agreements, traffic convictions in Quebec or Ontario are recorded on NYS driver license records and carry points. Except for violations in Ontario and Quebec, points are not added to your NYS record for out-of-state violations.
If you do not respond to a ticket or fail to pay a fine for a moving violation that you committed in any state except Alaska, California, Michigan, Montana, Oregon or Wisconsin, the DMV suspends your NYS driver license until you respond to the ticket or pay the fine. If a driver from a state except these six states fails to respond to a traffic ticket issued in NYS, their driver license will be suspended until the driver responds to the traffic ticket in NYS.
Drivers from other states must contact the DMV in their home state to get information about the effect of a traffic violation conviction that occurs in NYS.
If you receive a conviction for an alcohol-related or drug-related driving violation in any state, your NYS driver license is revoked for at least six months.

Damn, I need to move to New York. All of my tickets years ago were out of state, good old georgia nailed me for all of them, right on the record. I almost lost my license.
glad to have another 8'er, sorry about the ticket. that really sucks.
