I got my vin today!!!!! and my RX-8 is with the Sports Package (no sunroof).

My build date is 5/20/2003

 

How did you get it? From your dealer? E-Mail? Dream?:D

I called my dealer and asked if my order number had changed to a vin number yet. She said she had an invoice for the car and the vin number and the Build date. But she did not have any word on a delivery date, that part is still unknown to us all.

 

I too got my VIN number today... The suspense is killing me. Lets all hope these months fly by so we can see our rx8 in our driveway soon..:D

 

:D :D :D Dealer just called to give me my VIN# and the production start of my car is 5/23/03 - today! (well yesterday for Japan )
The dealer, Brown's Mazda Alexandria, said several of their RX-8s on order received VIN#s today.

I think I might actually get in some summertime driving!!!:D :D :D

 

Well, this is pretty useless from Mazda NA concerning my VIN (MAY 23, 2003):

" Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you.

I've checked our database and your VIN does not show any estimated time of arrival. It just has not been determined at this time. We should have more information as the RX-8 are released to the public. "

the suspense is killing me. I keep adding options to my car - i believe it's all by design. we'll, its working.

 

I got mine too! Hats off to my dealer who called me on my cell phone- he said- I had to call you for this update. Production date of 5/26.

I called my insurance company (Amica) and they dont have the RX8 listed, so even with a VIN, I couldnt get a quote...

 

jeeeeeeeeeez......... come on Mazda... spam us with our VINs!!

 

*sigh* still nothing from mine- he did get the accessories catalog yesterday and there's one sitting on his desk with my name on it. He said he would ask the manager who is in charge of the RX-8s (???) if they had received any VINs by Monday and give me a call back.

 

So those of you with the VINs already...What allocation are you in? Since I'm in the 3rd, I'm guessing I won'd get mine until June?

 

I am in the first allocation- ordered 1/9/2003, but I dont think the dealer put it in until 1/15/2003.

I am not officially a preorder, though my dealer tried to convert me by putting my email on the car's order

 

i am in the first allocation. I ordered it 1/11/03.

 

My order went in the second allocation. Supposedly, those cars that are pre-orders for specific people will move ahead of those the dealer ordered to max allotment. For example, in the first allotment my dealer ordered a car just like mine + navigation. In theory, my car will arrive before that car. Which is only fair. You don't want "Joe-impulse" walking in off the street and driving off in an RX-8 while you continue to wait!

I'll test the theory when I go to the dealer and check the list. If that other car doesn't have a VIN# it could be proof.

 

Got mine today!
Last three digits of 073. The sales manager said I should be the first in the area to get mine. He has 23 orders and only 2 VIN's.

How did you get a production date? I asked and he said he wasn't sure where to get that info from. If I could find out he'll check into it. Thanks.

 

On the printout from Mazda that lists your car on order, there is a column for build date (maybe production date). In the past this has appeared as "EST JUN/1st wk" or wording to that effect. My dealer said that now shows "MAY 23" for my car. He sounded shocked because he was calling me on May 23rd after just receiving the update. Then I reminded him that was "yesterday" in Japan.

I know that in mid-April my car was EST JUN/1st wk and early May it reverted to TBD.

I don't have my own copy of the printout since it is a laundry list of all the cars the dealership has on order. So I can't be more specific on the column titles and so forth. Seems like it was a column about half to 2/3rds over from the left.

I was surprised because he seemed very knowledgeable about the whole process except this. Maybe I was asking the wrong question and confused him. I'll stop in and check it out for myself. Would be nice to get a photocopy for my records and collection of stuff anyway.

:D :D Same today for me. Stopped on a "whim" expecting bad news...August/September...but he said i was #4 on his list (a loyal Miata customer) and that he'll call me with a "drop date"(?) next week and that I should have it before July1st!!!!! HAPPY DAY:D :D

My dealer tells me that they typically receive vvehicles about a month after the VIN appears. Hope that holds true - I'd love an early July delivery.

You probably talked to the same guy I did at Mazda South... Mike. He gave me my VIN, too, and said they typically see vehicles from Japan about 4 weeks after the VIN. If that's true, maybe we'll have our 8s by late June! I'm hopin'!

i received my vin number today!! i am in california i ordered the yellow with the touring package. still no book though! so is the last 4 numbers the number of vehicle they built? if so they are up to 1,500

well i work for a mazda dealer. (i pre-ordrered on 1/8/03, a yellow rx-8 with touring package and navigation system. i also ordred a few accessories). so i just asked the sales manager here in southern california it is dated with todays date (5/28/03). he did not have my correct email address so i have not been receiving emails. also i have seen a grerat rx-8 book that the service manager got from a mazda meeting he went to. it is a hard cover book with great pics and stuff. im not sure if it is the one we will be getting, i have no idea where to get one. i have talked to a few people at mazda they too have seen and looked at the book, but also do not know where i can get one.
