got nagged

had an argument with my gal when she nagged on me the way i drove the 8.

come on....i am driving a sport car some aggresiviness isnt avoidable. i dont know why whenever i step into my 8, always feel like i have to be faster than the rest on the street...well who can be blamed on...the 8 is really addictive at some point.

have anyone of you experieced this ?

My better half was bummed when we got beat by some sports-car-wanna-be the other day cause I didn't "punch it" well enough!!!!! Took the keys away and told me I wasn't worthy.. and it's MY car! :D

So I guess I cannot relate! I do know how it feels though.. I am beating everyone off the light! What fun!

She says I drive "psycho" in that car...I usually say something like, you should see how I drive when you're not here, and that ends the conversation

I don't drive 'psycho' -- i just don't slow down for corners. I do'nt smoke people coming out of a stop, unless they're taking off grandma-style (which lots do down here, wonder why..) I don't race folks. I don't cut folks off, nor tailgate.

But I don't slow down for corners. :D

Got a lot of hash from the (now) ex-wife over that. Seems to me, 99.9% of 'drivers' out there are content with straight - and - narrow and never, ever get to approach the limits of adhesion.. when you do, even if it's just say 6/10ths of the way, they FREAK, dig their fingernails into the door or the Jesus bar, and scream like they're gonna die or something.. :D

I got yelled at, then dealt with crying last weekend in my toyota freaking solara. In my defense, I was in control the entire slide, despite what she thinks.

Driving straight is so boring! On my way to take my SUV home to go pick up my 8, I got bored out of my mind from getting stuck at stop lights. On the way back in my 8, I got excited stuck at stop lights! =)

It's all about adrenaline!!!!!! Some of us need it, you know!

I never feel like I have to be the fastest on the street. I know I'm faster than most, and I know there still are lots of other cars that are way faster, so what's to prove? Besides, the 8 is not the car if you have the need to be the fastest one.

I do feel the need to take curves like a sumbitch, though. My favorite times are when there is absolutely no one else on the road.

I'm on the fence... On one hand, I'm really trying to curb my "teenage" need for speed. I try not to race everyone at lights, I try to maintain a reasonable speed, and I basically just never do anything that would force another driver to react to me.

On the other, this IS a Mazda, and I bought it for just that reason. I've gotta say, I've never known another company of any sort with such spot-on marketing... The 8 really does make me feel like a kid again. And, sometimes, this makes me want to show off my "toy" anytime I'm given the chance. But, even without driving fast, it just puts a smile on my face that I can't shake off. When I have a chance to open her up, I have an absolute blast.

And, so do most of my passengers. Basically, the first few times someone is in my car (unless explicitly requested, and they sign a waiver), I won't do anything acrobatic. I let them get a feel for how I go, stop, and corner without ever pushing the car. But, once they're acclimated, I'll pick up the pace once in awhile. Haven't had any complaints yet! Just a bunch of laughs, and a few "I SO want one of these!" comments. Although there was that one time a friend panicked in my old Camaro, held the door handle in a death grip, and broke it off. :D But that's a story for another day.

If she's complaining, it's probably because of some small habits you have that you don't even notice... Little things that can make a passenger feel as though you aren't completely in control. A couple of things that always bother me in this way about others' driving are late-braking when approaching stops, braking hard mid-corner instead of before entry, and cutting through traffic. Just pay attention to your technique. If you find yourself doing something that wouldn't exactly instill you with confidence if you were her, then try to work on them and I'm sure she'll come around!

Just be wary off passengers grabbing the oh-so-tempting e-brake handle during spirited turning. Almost happened to me, but I clamped down on her hand before she could pull it (the e-brake, gutter minds :p) up by accident. :D

Talking nagged? not me...

I think my girl has gunned it past more people than I have, she toyed around with a Viper on the beltway (or it toyed with us :p ) and has put her fair share of Mustangs to shame...me, I always get the souped up Yugos that want to run!!! She loves it when she gets the keys! Her mom has a classic GTO so I think that is where she must get it!

I personally enjoy it in the curves the most, especially coming out of the apex of the turn. We have some nice curvy roads around here, you just have to watch out for the deer!

Sorry to hear you got the negative vibes on the drive...has she been in the drivers seat of the car a lot?

My 8 makes me feel 18 again. I can not remember the last time I washed my car before I got the RX 8. Or waxed it.
As to the nagging my ex only asked how fast were you going on that ramp and not a word when I replied 70.

My other half likes to feel the power, and wish I drove like I do when her parents are in my car. The reaction I get from her is something I never thought I would get from a girl.

I guess I'm lucky. There are a few freeway on ramps that are wayyyy too fun. She always tell me to "go this way instead" so we hit those onramps. She gets more of a kick out of all the people who look at the car when we drive by - loves when the do an "exorcist" (head turning round trying to look at the 8).

She did get a little freaked out one time as I was rounding some tight "S" turns - but when she realized how well the car handled it, she hasn't said a word since.

We did see a extremely riced out Prelude once time - as we drove past it, she muttered, "rice." I asked her about that and she said she is learning.

Damn I love that woman.

What's strange in my case is that I drive pretty "normal" when I'm alone then when I'm with someone. It seems that I'm a little more aggressive when I have a passenger...just strange???

But yes, I get nagged at times for my driving (I too love curves) too aggressive but most of the time she is OK with how I drive.

Sometimes she does tell me...remember, this is not your car (when I drive her 6) LOL...

I took a friend out for a drive once after he INSISTED he see the car since I talk about it so much (and who was I to deny the pleasure?). I drove gently until the highway where I let it rip and took some connecting ramps pretty quick (not many curves around here, gotta take advantage when I can). All he could do was laugh! I've never received that reaction before and must have given a funny look because he said, "Sorry. I always laugh on rollercoasters and this feels just like one! What a great ride! No wonder you love this so much! I love it too!!"

Drive it like you stole it by yourself - problem solved.
Plus passengers slow it down.

My other/better half likes speed on the straightaways but gets nervous in the curves. Too bad, but at least she's not a total ninny. (And she was cool with the purchase.)

After a month and a half riding with my new Shinka, my fiance' would ask me nicely if we could rather take her Nissan Murano instead whenever we go out. She said she feels like she's on a rollercoaster ride when she sits on the passenger side and would always almost grab my shifting hand when I take a turn or launch from a stoplight. Now, her Murano has plenty of power (245hp) and i don't drive it like a grandma either but the 8 just gives you that sense of exhilaration very few cars can give this side of $35k. Her 10 yr old son digs it though. :D

Hahaha... we (my Fiancée and I) always have had fun cars to drive. We traded in our Miata for the 8. I tell you, she would drive the Miata like a bat out of hell, she would take the twisties and punch it, untill it reached it limits. On occasion she gets the urge to see how fast the 8 can hit between 65-80 mph, getting on a highway.
