Got pulled over yesterday...
Got off work and was driving home on a road I drive everyday. Set the cruise control for 65. Speed limit is 45. It was almost midnight so I didn't worry too much about cops.
About 3 miles from leaving work, lights go on behind me and I pull over. My heart's racing because I've never been pulled over before so I was trippin' out. Cop walks up to my window... "I pulled you over for speeding" "I paced you doing 65MPH" "Do you know what the speed limit is?" I replied, "45MPH?" I then apologize and told him I just got off work and was tired and just wanted to go home. He asks, "License and registration please" I'm like, oh well. it was worth a try.
He walks back to his charger and I sit in my car scared sh**less. He comes back and asks "Where do you work?" I replied "I work at In-N-Out Burger" He says, "Oh really? I just finished eating there" He said he recognized me and asked "You don't want this speeding ticket right?" I was like no thank you officer.
And he let me go without even a warning... I love In-N-Out

Caveat: The law reads this applies when radar or another ELECTRONIC DEVICE USED TO MEASURE SPEED is used on you. Guess what just about all modern speedometers are? That's right, an electronic device, not a mechanical one.
Second caveat: Not unusual to lose in traffic court and have to appeal as many judges will rubber stamp tickets regardless of what the black letter law actually says.

Wanna bet? In CA, hope that they hit you under 22350 for violating the basic speed law. Then the speed trap laws kick in. It requires that any posted speed limit on local roads be in compliance with a traffic and engineering study done in the last 7 or so years. If not or the survey doesn't exist then you win. If it is, you have to prove you were driving at a speed that was not a danger to life and property and not greater than the basic speed law which is 55 for two lane roads and 65 for four lane roads.

I'll pick it apart later with CVC quotes if I have time.
