Is the Grand Touring Package worth the extra $3900

I was wondering if the GT package is worth it's price. I know the leather interior makes it worth while, but with the reports of the ad quality of the Bose speakers and breaks making noises, does this justify the price of the package?

Leather is nice, but I could care less about the crappy bose, and never really use a sunroof...so I would say no. And yea..I have that package..hah.

HAHA. Yeah there are pluses and minuses to having a leather interior. I'm only curious if this package is worth it because i'm contemplating on whether or not I should get it since I'm short on cash. I know there are those that opted to not get this package and I was wondering if they regretted not getting the GT package.

Since I already have the package, I can't say if I would regret not getting it. If you're short on cash...don't get it. That's just more money in your pocket for savings, paying bills, or having extra $ for mods. Nice laptop by the way! See...if I didn't get that package, I might be able to afford the 17..hah.

HAHA. Thanks, yeah the labtop is sweet. Too bad Apple updated it already. But that's the computer industry. Anyhow, I think I might get it once I get the car because I don't want to have any regrets on the purchase. This being my first car that I will actually own, I might as well go a little extra for some enjoyment in life. Now the navigation system is another question I might have to face since I will kind of need it once I move to CA. Does that thing play dvd's as well? If it does then that's and extra 2K going into the car haha.

my last car had 16" wheels and no option for leather (what the hell honda) so one of the big reasons i went for the 8 was that it had optional leather and the 18" wheels. add in more power plus rear wheel drive and i had to have one...

I too have the GT package and love it. The Bose sound system isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be, at least in my opinion. I added a 10" sub and amp, no the system sounds great.

I love the sun roof. Open it up, roll down the windows and the car really does cool down. The sunroof, open or closed, doesn't really add a lot of noise either.

Leather is always comfy.

And I love the wheels and brakes.

worth it? yes, because any decent car should have the following:

leather seats.
xenon projection headlamps.
premium cd sound system.

without all three, you have an econobox. (I'm tempted to add NAV to that list, but not just yet.. But it is quickly becoming a standard for luxury cars).

I, too, have the GT package. I find it to be worth it. At first, I didn't care for any of the extra crap other than the leather. Now, here are my thoughts:

GT add-ons:
Leather Trim: I love the red/black. It feels nice, smells nice, is easy to clean, and should be very durable.

Power Driver Seat: I love being able to adjust the seat rake, and motorized adjustment is much more precise then having to manually slide the seat to give my son an extra cm of toe clearance behind me (he's 4).

Heated Front Seats: Not cold yet, but I know I'll be loving this in a couple of months.

Heated Mirrors: Ditto above, had these in a previous car, and it makes a huge difference being able to use your mirrors in the winter without scraping.

Touring add-ons:
Bose +AudioPilot: I like it just fine.

Sunroof: I've used it occasionally on cooler evenings. Sends a nice breeze down your neck when positioned "just so".

Homelink Mirror: Absolutely LOVE this. No fumbling for a remote that rattles in the storage compatment.

Sport add-ons:
HID: Unreal. I feel like my wife's car has NO headlights in comparison. I could NOT live without these. 10 miles of my commute is on an unlit country highway, and often at night.

Fog Lights: Have not used these yet.

DSC/TCS: Extra security blanket when kids are in the car, or during wet weather.

I got the GT pkg and I'm happy with it.

Are you considering the T pkg as a compromise? For $2700, it gets you the Bose audio (which I personally think rocks, thank you, you just gotta TURN IT UP!), HomeLink, fog lamps, and DSC. All things I'm glad I got.

The GT is an extra $1200 for leather seats, heated front seats with lumbar support, power driver's seat, heated side mirrors (yawn) and xenon headlights (pretty sweet). Pretty much luxury bells & whistles, not one of which alters the way the car actually drives. But if you want that leather, they gotcha...

Figure the cost of the pkgs per month over the life of the loan, and it seems like a worthwhile expenditure to me. Ack, I sound like a salesman. Better stop now.

I like the whole thing, except I was dissapointed to find out that the DVD/nav system does not play dvds, its only there, because you can update the nav system with dvd discs that have maps and stuff on it. (At least that is what my salesman is telling me. Havn't tried it myself

I didnt get the GT package. I do not like leather seats odd as that may sound to some. I also do not like moonroof's. I would have liked the electric seats but thats about it. I am very happy with my sport package as it has exactly what I like.

More Mac people really thinking different.

My Math 2057 teacher made that comment to me a few days ago when he came upon me in my FD in the parking lot. I had my 17" PB on the seat next to me.

My chances for an A went sky high :D

Bose -> Not necessary
Power Seat -> Good
Heated Seat -> Good for cold nights
Leather -> Can live without
Sunroof -> What the hell!! I don't want the extra weight!
Homelink -> A MUST-HAVE for me
DSC -> Good
HID -> Good
Navi -> Whatever that is.

I was initially looking for one with just the sport package, but ended up buying a GT with Navi.

Ordered the SP, but got the TP instead. The stuff in the SP I think is a must for a sports car, especially this car. My comments on the TP extras:
Bose - > It's Ok for my needs. I listen to the engine instead (music to my ears).
Home link and Dimmer - Nice to have.
Sunroof - I debated about this one, but now that I have it, I'm really enjoying it. Turn off the A/C (More Power, less hesitation), roll down the windows, and you almost have a targa. The warranty covers it for the 4 years and I think it adds to the resale value.

Er, watching DVDs in the front seat of a car is against the law, thank goodness.

I got the GT and love it, wouldnt have gotten any other trim.

At first I was unsure about the sunroof as I never had a car with one before and on my Z i never removed the tops but I am finding that the sunroof with the windows down is a nice comfortable (temp wise) alternative to AC

Also I like the Bose system a lot, and generally had a dislike for Bose (my Z had Bose and it was horrible). It sounds very nice but then again I really dont listen to anything with a ton of bass.

I love the auto dimming rear view mirror, I just wish the side mirrors did the same

I have the GT package, and had it come with a 6-disc CD changer (like I had thought it would, being the luxo package and all), it would have been worth it. As it is, I think it is overpriced. Such is life.

All I wanted was the Sport. Manual adjusting cloth seats are fine. Did not need a sunroof to leak, rattle and reduce the headroom.

I think the GT is worth every penny. The leather seats smell amazing and feels very very nice. The Xenon headlights are godsent compared to the crappy lights on my old Corolla and I personally, I like the sunroof. My only complaint is with the Bose sound system, they could have done much better. I think the GT is what bumps the RX-8 from being a "sports car" to a "luxury sport car." Besides, you'd be surprised how impressed non-car people are when you tell them you have xenon headlights and leather seats.
