Unhappy grease on oil dipstick!!

For the first time I checked the oil. I thought the dipstick was a little lame....small and weird and I scratched my hand as I got it out and I tried to be careful. When I pulled it out there was a substance....like a thick grease(cream color) on the stick at the top and bottom. Put it back in and tried again and still more gunk. Not a ton of stuff but still there. Could this just be from initial putting together of the car or is this in my oil? Any ideas? Thanks. Well.....I guess when i bring it in after the holiday to get her looked at for the jerky big vibration experience and lots of hesitations, I will ask, Maybe have them check the ECU?? since gas mileage is bad. She drove beautifully today... 40 degree's and I have almost 900 miles on her now.

First of all this is not good. You should check your oil every other tank of gas, about every 300 miles or so.

Secondly there has been several threads on this subject but most seem to originate from regions with cold (freezing) temps. I have seen more and more since winter set in. I noticed that you have a bunch of problems with your 8. Have you taken it to your dealer? That seems like the logical thing to do. The forum members can only speculate the service dealer can do something about it.

good luck

Oh....I checked the oil around 750 miles...put a bunch of miles on a long trip today. The oil level was fine....at 750 miles. I know i should check it more often.....just have to get in habit....rarely ever had to do this before.

Cruzdreamer, I wonder if that sludge is connected to your low mpg.

Light colored creamy substances have been reported inside the oil filler neck/cap on the FD (third gen RX-7) from time to time on the forums and email lists. I've seen it on my FD before. I am not entirely sure of the causes, but it doesn't automatically mean that something is drastically wrong.

I used to see it sometimes when I was using coventional oil, but I've never seen it since switching to synthetic (Royal Purple). I'm not totally sure if the conventional/synthetic difference is significant. It might be as simple as some oils tend to do it more than others, synthetic or not. But I do think synthetic oils are generally less likely to produce the stuff.

That doesn't mean you have to go out and switch to synthetic -- lots of people have reported the creamy substance without any other obviously bad effects. It probably would be a good idea to get an oil change, though.

Thanks for the input...sorry if this was a repeat. I will be taking my car in early next week. Hmmm.....how does that relate to the gas mileage you think? Well, this will all be adressed with the dealer and I hope to report back with some info. that resolves some of my issues. Thanks Gang!

Ok.....just got back from the dealer.....just condensation as far as the sludge in the oil.....says no worries with that. The big hesitation I got could have been moisture and the engine being cold still. My engine checks out fine on the tests. Oil was changed....did not get freebie since it was before regularly scheduled maintenance.
