Greatest Dealer Experience!
Warning Long....
When I get there I went straight to the accessories brochure rack to see if they had the 8 brochure. Ta da... They were in, so I was looking at it and then it begins. 3 different sales guys look at me and then 1 rushed right at me. Sales guy: "So can I help you?" "So looks like you want and RX-8." I'm thinking in my head, yeah too bad I preordered :D. I said yeah. I need help, where is the sales manager, I have the car ordered and need to ask ?s on my order. I could see it in the guys face , no sale on this chump. hah!
So the guy sends me to my sales manager and I talk to him about my car. Again I ask him ?s and I know he has that look on his face . I ask him about the MP3 player and it's features and some other stuff about the accessories. He tells me I see you have Titanium. That's the color I would get. Heh! Go figure. I'm sure he was saying that just because. I'm sure he says that to Red and Black ordrers too. But he shows me his allocations. I notice that there are a lot of Red GTs ordered (prolly 40+% of the total 40 something cars the dealer is getting). I'm thinking to myself cool. I'm the only one with Titanium in my area. So I ask him about my Vin and he shows me that my car is ready for build June Week 1. I'm like woohoo next week. Then I ask him how long it would take to arrive. He goes on and give me that look and makes up something like... Uhh It's gonna be about 1 month. So I said August right? He said yeah Aug. I was like 1 month is July. Man my sales guy is soooo lost. Oh well ...
As I wrap up things and on my way out another Sales guy comes up to me and says you getting an RX-8 I see there. I said yea I got one ordered (thinking he was like the first guy that wanted to sell me the car). This is where I was wrong. So we go just outside of the doors and start talking about the car. He tells me he has a Red GT on order. I told him, I've been waiting on this car since the RX-Evolv. He was clueless on what that was. He's only heard of the car since December. He's owned 2 FBs though, an 84 and 88. So I was like cool.
Then I see on the faaaaar end of the parking lot a Shinsen Miata in Titanium. The sun was right on it and gave a glow (almost like it was calling out to me). I was like hey that's the Shinsen Miata. He said yeah. I was like that's the color I'm getting. He then says you busy. I said naw, I'm just on my way home from work. He says let's go take it for a spin. I'm like YES :D! So he gets the keys while I wait at the car and stare at it. I'm glad I picked Titanium. It's sweet! I get in it and it only has 10miles on it. We pop the top drive off. With out him saying anything I drive the car hard right off the lot reving up high RPMs before I shift. I'm surprised he didn't say anything. So I just continue to drive the car like it's mine :D.
So we drive around some nice curvy roads and he says do you mind if we stop by a place so I can get some lunch. I was like sure. So we drive to the place and he says we are going to this sushi bar that was about 8 miles from the dealer. I'm like I know this area and ask him, are we going to Osakas, He's like yeah you been here. I said I come here all the time. He like right on. So we go and order some food and munch down on some sushi. The funny thing when we were leaving he said it's on me. I'm like . He says well you got me out of the office, so it's a fair trade off kid. I'm thinking this guy is cool. So we drive around a little more and get back to the dealer. All in all I put a good 15-20mi. on the car. I've never driven a convertible before and I must say the Miata is a nice little car (waaaay better the the CRX I currently drive). We get back to the dealer and he doesn't try to sell me anything. All he did was give me his card and says thanks. I told him that I'll treat him back in my 8, and take him for sushi.
All I can say is that is probly the best service I have ever gotten from a car salesman. I've already had the car ordered but I still get First Class treatment! Anyone else have a good expericence with their dealer?

I remember when we took a 10AE Miata for a test drive - they told us to go find some good twisties and bring it back when we were done. The only rule was: "Don't deploy the airbag." :D

It's not surprising he'd not heard of the RX-Evolve...
but - I'm glad you finally got to drive a Miata - it IS a great little sports car. A Sebring or Sunbird can be a decent little convertible but never a sports car. What makes it so much better is best summed up by the fact that Automobile has named it to it's Top Ten list as far back as it's been on the market (not sure if it's missed a year or not) AND named it the best sports car UNDER $40,000 just last year!!
But no, never a great experience like that. But back when I lived in the Dallas area and owned a Protege with free lifetime oil changes I'd drive a car every now and then - a 95 RX-7, a 10th AE Miata - always with no sales person along for the ride. Funny thing was that the only person there each time I visited was Bubba the service writer - all the sales personnel were always changing.

By the way mp5, what allocation are you in?

I should be in the first allocation. I think I was the 2nd person to place an order with them. Last time I talked to Eladio he said he expected mid-July delivery, which is consistent with what most have been saying here.

Eladio? Who's he? I ordered from John Hine, I spoke with Ted Gawle, the "internet sales manager" - and he's been a complete schmuck. He told me that I was the first one to order at John Hine, he didn't know anything about the car when I went in to talk to him (I had to explain the options and packages) but I still ended up in the second delivery. He told me that he waited so long to deal with the first delilvery that it was all randomly chosen or something, he doesn't have any info on what options were going to be sent. He said that if the delivery comes in with the right options he's let me buy that one instead of the one I ordered. I've e-mailed him a few times since then to ask about progress, port/dealer options, etc. and never gotten a response.
Do you have the contact info for Eladio so I can check with him?

I would just call the dealer and ask for E. He seems pretty clueless sometimes. I don't think he keeps up with everything. But he's your typical sales manager. Just wants his guys to sell cars. I think if you go down to the dealer in person you will get more info than over the phone.

He's owned 2 FBs though, an 84 and 88.
Glad to hear that story. Ironically, I have started warming up to the people at my dealership as well. The only unfortunate thing about mine is that they are Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda. Its a tossup over whether that combination is any better than the ever so popular Ford-Mazda. When will Mazda have majority "stand alone" dealerships!!! Ok sorry for the rant. I hope it has some relevancy.

I've had a really great experience, here in Dallas @ Freeman Mazda with George Johnson (Fleet & Credit Union Sales Manager)
- If anywant wants to find out more details, do a search, I won't waste everyone elses time, or PM me.
But, thank's to George, I got in to the reve-it-up event, plus free auto show tickets for my familly and the RX-8 brochure and that very early multi-media CD on the yellow RX-8!
:D :D :D :D
So, if your in the DFW area, please give him a call - and tell him I sent you!
