Greensboro, NC Home of stuck up 8 drivers
I've seen 5 RX8's in the last 2 days and not one of em has returned my Courtesy wave. In fact I even received the 1 finger salute from the red one. I pulled up beside another Blue 8 yesterday, gave the lady driving a nod and wave and she rolled her eyes at me, didrespecting her twin sister! I love my car, but I'm not liking the tools driving 8's that I've come in contact with.

Yeah to many damn Yankess moving down into North Carolina :-) messing up Southern hospitality.
Truely I think the reason for this is:
1) These people are not enthusiast....the just view the RX-8 as a car.
2) Yankees....when I lived in CT you had to live next to someone for a year before you could wave at them.....
Zoned you should come visit us at the Raleigh Rotary Drive in...every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month. People start showing up around 5:30PM or later. WWW.RRDI.ORG
Willofgod...I am the yellow RX-8 in the triangle with the black chrome OEM rims.

Its cultural
Back outside the city, neighbors wave because they are glad to see each other no matter what you are driving -
City Folks don't want to be thought of as country bumpkins - waving is simply not done. They are not stuck up, simply more introverted - that they are even noticed distresses them - especially if you are younger, have any cultural abnormalities: hair style, ethnicity, apparel, enthusiasm. They will want a proper introduction, especially from someone they know or respect, they will want to know what set you belong to, you need to attend church with them, attend invited functions, remain on a formal basis unless you grew up with them or went to the same school. Go slow - find your group - there are nice 8'ers out there. Remember, the bigger the home the more they want to be alone.

I live right outside of Winston-Salem and pass a silver and a white one every day.
The guy in the silver is kind of frigid. He acts like I'm on his cool car turf and tries to not look at me. Whenever I see the white (an older lady) she always waves back. Some people are just not into it I guess.

I live in the Triad area too and am in Raleigh during the week for work. I see several 8s every week but we're usually heading in opposite directions on the highway. Throw me a wave if you see a sunlight silver with rear spoiler and UNC license plate.

i've gotten one wave so far in ohio. when i went to peoria, illinois to see my cousin graduate there was another blue 8 that drove right by me. i had my hand outside the window waving but didn't get anything back.

As much as i'd like to think so, 8 owners aren't exactly like dudes on Harleys or something. It's just not an unspoken "code" like it is with those guys to always respect everyone else's Harley. I'll admit that it's pretty cool have have others with level heads and good attitudes, but the lack-there-of doesn't nessicarily surprise me.
I'd imagine those same people that don't wave or give you the finger would be the same ones that bought the car cause it looked cool, and/or didn't even realize it had a rotary engine, or even know the difference between the rotary and a piston engine.
I learned that the whole "code" thing wasn't universal when I first got my cobra. OMG. but that, my friend, is another WHOOOLE story.
If it's any consolation, i'll wave to ya

I mostly get nods or waves from Miata drivers. Maybe it's just 'cause there are more of them out there. In fact, I hardly ever see another 8 on the road. Then again, I live in a metro area and Miatas are really popular here because they are tiny.

I think your problem is that you're waving at stuck up old neveau-riche folks who want nothing to do with "inferior classes" or "young snotheads" as they might call you, they probably don't even know what kind of engine is under the frickin hood.

Since no one else has one out here, there is no waving, but people will pull up beside to take a look and give a grin, some times make a peace sign. More often it is just a slight reving of an engine at a stop -light - not enough to challange - just enough to let you know they notice - or toward SLO, if they have a spoiler they have got to get in front, drop in beside, and then practically beg you to play with them.
Had a little gal in a BMW get out and look at it real hard at my 8 while I was inside paying for gas - whe I came out she put her nose up and flounced off - Mom said "I think I am really getting to like this car!". She decided right then to take pictures and she is sending them to all her lady friends in Florida to make them green!

lately in Orange County, CA rx-8's are popping up like cockroaches. before march i think i saw a total of 2 rx-8's down here. now theyre everywhere. i guess because of the affordable pricetag.
I have yet to have a nod, smile, or "wave" returned. thats ok!

You can be old, and you can be rich ,but its real hard to be an old neveau-riche - sort of a contridiction in terms like jumbo shrimp or military intellegence. You are either old rich or new rich. Old rich stole.... er earned, their money the old fashioned way - they always had it and they always will unless they breed down and produce a Paris Hilton. They don't work for a living, they think for a living, and they maintain the fortunes their forefathers provided. They had ships, and plantations, and coats of arms before America was America. They have better things to do than bother other people. They play polo down in Nashville, have a home or two in that little town in Wyoming with the wooden boardwalks, and may visit England occasionaly to see the old homestead. They are very much aware of who they are, but they are generally hospitable, friendly, kindley, and very well educated - the strong can afford to be merciful. They get married and they stay married - because that keeps the money in the family and besides wolves mate for life. They also have very nice gardens, and a surprising number collect butterflies or are bird watchers. Some drive really old cars and trucks and don't think about it - but they are rather proud of their helicopter.
The new rich are still in the process of stealing ... er, earning their money. Thats why they have to separate themselves from the field hands. It's like being a Jr. CEO in ERON, a rock star, or a Celeb like Paris Hilton. They tend to put their houses at the very tip top of hills so everyone can see them, and then plant a gate at the bottom so you can't visit them. They have gardens but those are for their friends to see. They spend too much on tips, or too little, leave litter on golf courses. They leave a string of exs behind them because it is cheaper to get a new one, but they steal towels from Air Craft Carriers. They push the price of sports cars up, and then back them into other peoples cars. They ride in their own jets but have to hire pilots. They are afraid of horses. lawyers, the IRS, and child support. They don't like other people and thats probably safer for the other people....

I pass a black RX-8 occasionaly that I think lives in Royal Pines (Beaufort, SC) and I got a wave from him (actually it may have been a her) and I got really excited and frantically waved my hand in the air after I passed him/her.
