Grinding Noise

Well, I own a 04 MT GT w/ about 11k miles on it. Lately when the clutch is not engaged and is all the way out there has been a grinding noise that it makes, when the clutch is pushed in the sound goes away completely. Now I have heard from a couple people it might be the throw out bearing. Any truth to this or has anyone else has this situation? Also is it a warranty issue? Is there anything else I should look fo rto try and have my dealer look at at the same time? I appreciate the help.

I want to preface this with I did do a couple searches prior to posting the prior note. I continued and found a couple articles relating to the same thing so in part I have answered my own question. I am still curious to see if there are any solutions as all i read was it was normal. I just wanted to make sure as it is all new to me.

Hmmmm, if it were the throw out bearing, I suspect you would hear the sound worsen when the clutch pedal was depressed. From your description the opposite seems to be the case. The car should be well within its warranty (I too have an 04 with about 12k on it and have a year and a half left), so just go hassel your dealer as no grinding noise can be good.

I just got back from the dealer actualyl and they stated they have 4 different Rx-8s on the lot and they all do it. I also read some other threads abotu this and they say it is normal for the 8. it was just very weird to me and was trying to either get rid of it or lessen the noise.

When does the grinding noise occur? When driving at constant RPM's, or while working the engine up to 6 - 9k?

The grinding noise you hear if you are bringing the rev's up to 9k is completely normal. You should hear a couple of quick "grinds" on the way up, as that is how the engine is designed to work. If you hear the grinds at low rpm and they are constant, though, that is not normal.

Which is it?

I also have the exact same problem , mine is an 03 model and I'm out of warrenty! once the clutch pedel is to the floor the sound goes away , when its not the grinding noise occurs.. Does anyone know the reason for this ?

And to answer Huskyfan23 this occurs on idle and not in any gear.
