Had to sell the 8 :(

It was a sad day, but we really had too. My wife (and me) are expecting a baby, so we've bought a lot of the baby stuff already. But we ran into a problem after we got the infant stroller, there's really no where to put it in the RX-8. I couldn't get it into the trunk, no matter how I tried, which left us to put it into the back seat. Ignoring the obvious saftey issue with standing a stroller in the back passenger with a baby next to it (possible tippover over into baby around turns) what would happen when we had the 2nd kid?

Instead, we now own the ugliest production car available, the Subaru Baja Turbo. In the end, this is way better in terms of practicality. We still have the FC drift machine, so there's still a rotary in the family. And we'll likely get the new RX-7 whenever it comes out, so we still have that to look forward to.

Anyway, just wanted the community to know we're not really losing an RX-8 owner, but keeping a former owner, and gaining a potentially new owner!

heh. personally, i'd have returned the baby carriage and gotten one that fit, instead of the other way around.

Well--thats how it goes down--hopefully, the 8 will find another loving home--what are you replacing the RX8 with?

AS MANY have heard my wife and i just had our first. baby seat fits perfect in teh back seat and our stoller goes in the trunk no problemo. with plenty of room in there for other stuff. should have gotten a different stoller.

Sorry to hear it go. Maybe somewhere down the road again... I have 3 kids(one in a car seat) and we all fit just fine. Mama has to stay home, though...

I'm a big Subaru fan and all, but a Baja??? Why not the Forester XT? I did talk to a Baja owner a couple weeks ago and he couldn't stop going on about how much he loved his Baja though <shrugs>

Definitely.
Both of us can't stand kids.

Out of our group of friends, we're the only remaining DINKS.

BTW, what is a Subaru Baja Turbo?

This unholy creature. It has its place, but I can't imagine why one would get it to haul around baby paraphenalia. When I was little (true story) my parents had a 1973 Mini for a while. It may take a village to raise a child, but it doesn't require an 18-wheeler-load of supplies to be hauled around. Note to original poster - strollers and disposable diapers aren't very functional after they've been rained on in the open bed of a pickup.

I know there are some issues concerning car seat's in the front seat and airbags.
Since we have rear airbags, is there any danger of airbag injury with the car seat in the backseat?

Funny... I bought the RX8 because it was large enough for my wife and I to have kids.

"WTF " is my reaction every time I see one of them. The only reasonable thing I've seen them used for is beach patrol.

There are so many other cars out there. Why the Baja??? Seems like an odd choice to me. But then again...to each their own.

Good luck.

This reminds me of that Saturn commercial, a couple gets an Ion, suddenly has a baby and all of a sudden they need a huge SUV to carry "a baby"????

If it was me, I would've kept the 8 and gotten a smaller stroller. IMO, you don't need a huge car for a kid.

Cool late night + alchohol and love for the caiparinia

that's to bad you had to get rid of the 8 because of a stroller.. But everyone, remember, when there's two people making the decision, the decision could be more sided to the other. . . . half don't get me wrong, i have no other half telling me to get rid of my ride. but it's comming very soon!!! dammit@!!#! But whatever is best for both(or more) is best for me(i'm to damn liberal!! shiza!)

Yeaaa, alchohol, interesting effects.. But regardless I LOVE MY RX8, i would do anything to keep it. . . But in terms of practicality it is wonderful, but it's just to damn sexy which makes it look unpractical.. I fit a lot in my 8, haven't tried a stroller yet(or a snowboard which is the ultimate test!!!), but i probaly won't have the chance to at least for a few years :P

I Feel bad tho. i know i have to get rid of my 8 next summer, but i'm dreading it and i'm doing everything in my power to stop it (purchasing a condo is costly i just recently found out.. yes i'm young but not that young

but to solve the can't afford cundrume.. Overtime, Overtime!!!! but if i do loose the 8, i will get it back.. Or any wankel rotary engine made from now till the time of buying.. RX8 has made me a rotary addict!!!! Well enough babble if you've gotten this far!

Happy new year everyone!!! ( a little late, internet was down for an hour out here!!! And have fun in the not sure what its called subaru..

I have 2 kids, 2 carseats, and one stroller in my car at all times without problems. If the stroller can't fit in the 8 trunk, get rid of it no matter what car you have now. It's too big.

We originally bought the car thing that is wouldn't be a problem with kids, we actually thought having the "suicide doors" and pop-out windows as an added bonus to keep kids in the car.
Believe me, this was more than simply saying "Oh the stroller doesn't fit, let's buy a new car!" We bought what we thought was the smallest infant stroller we could get, be it led to thinking more into the future. What happens when we have the second kid???? Not only that, but if we waited until the second kid, the RX8 would have depeciated more, increasing any car payment that we may have. That among other things (getting a pregnant woman in and out of the 8 can be interesting...) was what pushed us to make the decision.
As far as the getting the Baja, the RX8 was always her car. (I probably wouldn't have bought one for just me.) We tested the Murano and the Matrix, but she really like driving the Subaru. And as wierd as this may sound, I think the Forester is just plain unattractive. It looks like one of those almost minvan things with regular doors. And since the motor is damn near the same in the STi, there's hope in the world of making power in this thing (they already dyno more than a stock WRX!).
But, everyone has their own taste for cars. Like I said, we already have a sports car, which is faster and handles better than the RX8 anyways, so we only lost having the hottest car on the road, not the performance.

im sure you can find a stroller that will fit into the 8.
otherwise, its always handy to have a "normal" car as a 2nd car in the family :D
we are looking to get a station wagon when the junior arrives...... either a RS4 or Allroad would be great

ditto kind of...

my daughter is two and our stroller JUST fits.
tight fit in and out of baby seat and as a family, we usually take the forrester.
but when its just the kid and me, we have a great time.
she loves helping me change out the snow wheels, and with oil adds/changes.
when we get ready to go out, her and me, she say "gonna go in the RX8?"
and i say, "YEAH!" and she says, "look at the new wheels, dad!"
anyhow, too much information. but, our 8 works out just great.
good luck with the BAJA dood!
