Had some fun with the 8 tonight

I was driving on the Beltway in Houston (everybody drives 75-80mph all the time) and was getting onto one of the really high ramps to change onto one of the freeways. I had to cut in front of a mustang to make the switch and he was doing more than 80 easily. I went into the overpass at 75....the same speed I was going in the first place...and he was on my bumper. Once the overpass corner came, I maintained my speed and the mustang was really trying to keep up. The overpasses here are kinda bumpy because of the heat, but the RX8 was not even trying hard to make the corner. The Mustang had to back WAY out of the throttle.

I ended up with about 200 ft between us getting onto the interstate. I have been in cars with too much HP and not enough handling my whole life. Being able to take a corner with no drama while the guy behind me was fighting to keep up is kinda new to me, but I like it!

I never got over 75, but the corner made a huge difference.

haha that's y anyone with a mustange want to "compare speeds" I always say ok....lets go down on a windy road and we'll have at it!!! haha the 8 may not be fast in a 1/4 mile compared to a GT but it will beat about any car in the turns especially with a skilled enough driver!!!

Ja I drove the Mustang for over twenty miles and wasn't happy at all.

My 94 Buick handled better than that.

I love stories form you 'cause from what you've been driving before...power is nothing without control (in the bends) I guess?

And another good thing is that...no cop hiding in bends...they usually hide in long stretched straight road....

I think you can hand that "victory" to Torsen diff vs. steel girder suspension in the Mustang as Top Gear call it :P

Kafka - It's a whole new world, trust me. You didn't have to think much in my old cars...just get it straight and floor it.

kind of like comparing a knuckle dragging neanderthal to Anna Kornikova (sp?)

The RX8 is as fast in a straight line as a mustang gt is in a road course

With enough money, ANYTHING can be a pretty decent drag car

I have friends who have turned 4600lb cars into 9 second drag cars (how much money do you have and how fast do you want to go....oh yeah, and how many parts do you want to break) and have had the same group of friends TRY to turn the same 4600lb car into an autocrosser.

Anything can be made to go fast in a straight line, but not everything can make it around a road course quicker even with unlimited money. At a certian point, MASS wants to continue in the direction it is going...having less MASS is better. And having most of that mass in between your wheels is really cool also unless you are drag racing.

I am already thinking about lighter wheels, better rubber, and possibly lowering the car. If I do that, new coilovers would be the next logical step. Oh god, it has taken less that 2 months for me to start modding. I guess some addictions will never be cured.

I had a similar experience with a Civic on the exit from Northern St to Meadowbrook Parkways on Long Island doing 60. I backed off because I was afraid he was going to roll over into me. Idiot: him and his passenger looked like they were holding on for dear life.

I experience this on a daily basis going to work each morning and is the best part of my day. Heading South on the freeway the off ramp for my exit winds around and spits you out going East on the exit road. Just before the curve there are all the sharp curve warning signs and according to one sign you should be taking the curve at 25 mph; I take it at 50 mph most days and if I really want to show off or if someone is tailing me purposely I kick it up a notch. It's great, I always lose the car in rear view mirror coming out of the curve I am so far ahead, no matter what is behind me. The 8 doesn't even struggle around the corner, great feeling. I love my 8.
