I'M SICK OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've had an RX2, RX3, RX4, RX7 (X2) RX8 (Shinka) ................................WHY?
The RX8 is TOTALLY DIFFERENT. It has a one of a kind engine. (it spins) NO OTHER CAR IN THE WORLD IS LIKE IT. Triangles spinning in a housing....the human mind figured this out over 40 YEARS. You get to drive it in 2006. I have a rotary bike...it's smooth as silk and it's 34 years old. Hold your heads up high. No exotic car at twice the price has anything on any of us.
OK..fine...other cars accelerate faster...BLAH...BLAH...Blah.....Who here gives a ****?
We have a one of a kind balanced, smooth, light, cornering, PRACTICAL ride that is like NOTHING ELSE.
Everyone BE THANKFUL we have the RX8

I ride my Suzuki 3 or 4 times a week. I have a spare engine in a crate in the garage. I LOVE the rotary sounds from that single rotor exhaust. Brap..brap...Brap..Brap...Lovi it. We rule!!!

I agree that the rotary is different, but I think you are stretching it by saying that it is "practical". When it has an engine smaller than a 4-banger and it gets worse gas mileage than the GTO, I think practical goes out the window. The rotary engine is fun to drive and it is smooth, but other areas of the RX8 are subpar compared to many other cars on the road that don't cost nearly as much.

Yeah! Theres been about 5x as many CX-7 commericals made in its couple of months lifespan than the RX8 since 2003..it's rediculous! The world needs to know :-O
Although, I DO think Mazda should've made 6th gear rediculously low. I mean, who REALLY needs power in 6th gear? Not me..I only go into 6th when crusing on the highway, if I need to go faster, I drop a gear. Simple as that...we're missing out on a hell of a lot of gas mileage due to that decision.
But I love my RX8 :-P Many more positives than negatives by a LONG shot. Zoom zoom zoom :-D

They need to make rx8 commercials like how they made rx7 commercials. drive the complete **** out of it.... drive it till its lights starts flickering like the FC in its commercials... driving off ramps... driving it through salt flat tornadoes like the FD. **** yeah!

Keep up the cheerleading it adds real $ value to your car!
And yes, we need better ads, forget zoom zoom instead just a set of out takes - from, say, the Devinci Code then a close up on the black 8, from X-men, Wolverine driving - pull back to show 8 then a close up to show grin, From Fast and Furious - some nice drifting...
Or maybe a picture of that irritating Geeky All White German Guy, who depimps cars, being run over by a black 8 - his body forming an X! - or a whole set of them with a pull away so they spell R X 8

the 8 has never been about practicality...more originality then anything.
When i considered selling my 8 awhile back, the main reason I kept coming back to was it's unique value that it carries. I was gonna miss those conversations at the pump, I was gonna miss those redundantly stupid people that would still ask how many pistons the 8 has after explaining 3 times how the rotary engine works.
It really is a car that requires a special kind of person to own it. Some are fit, others who purchase is find out the hard way that they're not.
All quirks, problems, and complaints taken in...I still love drivin the 8 to death...hands down over my Cobra. I've just accepted that some will never be able to see past it's impracticalities. To those, indeed...a prius awaits your becking call.

Reggie Bush making cuts in the open that would break most peoples legs or a trick parachuter landing on a dime. This is what you get with the 8. And that's not even the best part. An engine that is smoother than the lens on the hubble. And that beep at 9.5! NO ******* WAY!

Look at it this way, the RX-8 is unique. Mazda miscalculated and thought it would be more mainstream than it really was. As a result, they flooded the market with RX-8's and had to offload them cheaply. This killed our resale values.
But what this also did was give us a ton of used RX-8's that we'll end up being able to leech from when we need spare parts. I bought my RX-8, and I plan on keeping it. So it's all good

Perfect way of putting it.

"Beck and call".......
I'm a little bit of a Rotor-Head myself, since my first in 1975....
I LOVE them triangles, I'm just afraid they will try and swap the engine on the recall - they can't have it! It's MINE I tell you!! Muhaa HAA!!

Perhaps Mazda's not publicizing the RX-8 precisely because it's expecting people in the know (rotorheads) to purchase it? I for one am tired of people pointing out the impracticalities of the car. I say to these people, please don't ever look at a Mazda again and head for other showrooms, like a Toyota. My feeling is that Mazda has pioneering spirit that shines above most of the other Japanese manufacturers at the risk of their business. Wankels, small 6 cylinder engines (MX-3), Miller cycle engine (Millenia), bringing back the sportster to the States when no one dared, introducing the space wagon to the States (Mazda 5), building a true 4 door sports car. It's pretty obvious this company likes cars and experimentation, when most other companies are focused on the business.
