Good god...what's with the e-thug language? Sure your not from club si? Regarding retractable hard top...I don't really like the idea for the Rx-8. For the next gen Rx-7 maybe...in general any 2+2 convertible (ala sebring, Mustang etc..) just look weird. If its going to be a convertible rx-8, it better only have 2 seats and have better porportions...then it would be an Rx-7 though...

I don't see it happening either
I, too think that it would be a structural infeasability. The way that the vehicle is designed, it does not lend itself into becoming a convertible. They' probably have to redesign the whole thing...in which case, it would not even be an RX-8 afterward. Thye are resleasing the newly designed convertible MX-5 this year anyway.

Miatas are excellent cars, and an excellent value. It's fine if you don't like the Miata, but you lose any shred of credibility you might not already have lost with a statement like that one....

LOL---yo son you got crazy skillz yo. Or if I talk in my native Houston e-thug language. Hol Up mayne--yall boyz trippin on this computer--fo real mayne it go dahn; nowem tawlkin bouwt.
but seriously--my first car was a Miata--I love em. They are like a blank canvas; you just need to add the extra power if you want it because the handling is built in there already.

Now "ugly," of course, is in the opinion of the beholder. "point blank period it ugly," sounds (stated in highly original syntax) like an absolute assertion that the Miata is ugly, which, of course, puts you in the very small minority of folks considering that. I happen not to like the looks of the Elise, but I would never say it's "whack."

At that point, you'll have a car costing low to mid $30,000s that has straightline performance comparable to a Miata, with handling ability and gas mileage far below that much cheaper car. I just don't see how a convertible RX8 will sell well sitting next to RX8 coupes and Miata roadsters.

So you guyz don't think the option of buying a plain rx-8 or a convertible rx-8....having the option of riding just like in a normal 8 and being able to feel the wind on your face would be cool? If you honestly think its not tight...then fine.... but you know having the option of buying both would be cool but if you just wanna shoot me down because u feel like you have to or you wanna fit-in instead of just admitting the truth.... then whatever its people that arent punks that LEAD THE WORLLDDDD TO A BETTER PLACE!!!!! HAHAA don't get me wrong I love my 8 the way it is just having the option would be kool

Hardtop convertibles are cool yes--my mom has an SLK and I enjoy driving that for the wind in the face or whatever--but honestly I would not want a hardtop convertible RX8 unless it had at least 300RWHP. I'd rather my 8 the way it is. Oh btw the 350Z COnvertible is horrendous looking with the top up--and rather ungainly with it down.

Sure, it would be very cool to be able to wave a magic wand and lose the top, while keeping everything else the same. But that's not how the real world works. Converting a coupe to a rag-top always involves compromises, typically adding a few hundred pounds of weight and losing stiffness. The RX-8 would not interest me if it weighed more and handled less well, as would be the case with a rag-top conversion of this car.

I don't think that 124Spider was saying anything bad about you, he was just stating a few of the problems associated with making it a convertible. You sir are an idiot and I believe that you owe him an apology.
